Stan Nakano, the SBA's district director, presented the award to Zions Bank at a June 20 awards ceremony hosted by the Utah Small Business Lenders non-profit organization. In 2005, Zions Bank approved 699 SBA 7(a) loans in Utah, ranking as the state's top provider of SB A loans to small businesses for the twelfth year in a row. The 699 loans approved by Zions Bank in Utah totaled more than $60 million, and represented 34 percent of the 2,012 SB A-backed loans approved in the state during fiscal year 2005. Of those loans, 35 percent were made to women and minority-owned businesses and one-third were made to rural businesses. "We are honored to be recognized by the SBA for our institution-wide sup- port for small businesses as they grow, expand and create jobs," said Zions Bank President and CEO Scott Anderson. Zions Bank is Utah's oldest financial institution, and is the only local bank with a statewide distribution of branches, operating 112 full-service branches throughout Utah. Zions Bank also operates 23 full-service branches in Idaho, and nearly 200 ATMs throughout Utah and Idaho. In addition to a wide range of traditional banking services, Zions offers a comprehensive array of investment, mortgage, and insurance services, and has a network of loan origination offices for small businesses nationwide. The company is also a leader in providing electronic banking services, including electronic municipal bond trading. Founded in 1873, Zions has been serving the communities of Utah for more than 130 years.
