JUNE 22,2006 BRYCE CANYON ASTRONOMY FESTIVAL Bryce Canyon National Park in partnership with the Salt Lake Astronomical Society is pleased to announce the Sixth Annual Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival. This event begins Wednesday June 21, 2006 and continues through the evening of Saturday, June 24. Gather under one of the last grand sanctuaries of dark skies and enjoy the splendors and wonders of starry nights! This event is for the general public whether one is an astronomy buff or has only a casual interest in the night sky. Visitors have the opportunity to look through numerous telescopes in the evening, courtesy of the Salt Lake Astronomical Society. During the day, visitors can safely view the sun through the park's special solar telescope or attend the many workshops. Travel though the cosmos with park rangers and guest speakers as your guide. Learn how to use a star chart, find your way through the constellations, and hear stories of the stars, ancient and modern. Workshops, programs, and classes will include choosing your first telescope, astronomy for kids, night walks, nocturnal animals, astronomy by ancient cultures, protecting the night sky, and finding your galactic address. National Park Service cherishes the dark night skies of the Colorado Plateau and is pleased to share this spectacular resource with the public. With the assistance from the Salt Lake Astronomical Society and the support of Utah residents we are able to play a part in safeguarding the night for this and future generations of Americans. The Bryce Canyon Natural History Association and Student Conservation Association have provided grants to support this event. These volunteers will present some of the night sky programs and operate telescopes for star viewing. Park admission is required; but all astronomy festival programs are free. Evenings are often quite chilly at our 8000' elevation, so dress very warm. Outstanding opportunities for hiking, exploring, sightseeing, wildlife viewing, and learning natural history abound at Bryce Canyon National Park and the surrounding vicinity. Lodging or camping reservations are strongly encouraged. Further information is available at www.nps.gov/ brca. ADVERTISE IN THE INSIDER" IT WORKS!! Call 676-2621 |
