Show LETTER FROM THE EDITOR WHO WE ARE WELCOME TO THE V! The V Magazine is a new project being funded by Utah Valley University. We're glad you're here. And we really mean it. I always love seeing stacks of these magazines disappear. I nearly did a cartwheel the first time I saw a copy tucked in a man's armpit walking down the street. These sheets of newsprint are the products of much toil and a little sleep deprivation. We love assembling this magazine because we know it can make a difference. It can raise awareness, it can bring people together, it can kindle fires of creativity and it can conjure up a stronger sense of community—all good things. It will be hard to find any strands of continuity as you glance through this issue. The articles deal with Thai food, Christmas, book clubs and a hardcore band. But the haphazard juxtaposition illustrates just how unique this valley is. All these things can happen at once, and that's alright. Keeping up with everything in the valley can be tough, but we're not going anywhere, and we hope you won't either. The purpose of these pages is to highlight the vibrancy of the arts in the valley, affirm the attractiveness of the community, expand the scope of its members and provide a forum for the unique diversity of thought within this mountain home. The publication is about people—how we interact with each other and how we interact with the valley. By highlighting individuals in the community, focusing on their unique talents and contributions, we hope to knit the community more closely together. The primary goal of this publication is to become an adhesive—binding the people in the valley to the things that make it beautiful. To make this bond possible, we strongly encourage community involvement and submissions. Opinions, observations, short stories, sketches, poetry, paintings and photographs are all welcome. This publication is as much yours as it is ours. IF YOU WERE TO VISIT THAILAND, WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO DO? Take care, SAMPLE THE CANDIES OF THAILAND, AND SPEND A LOT OF TIME ON THE BEACH.
