Though the reason for this delay is unknown, UDOT crews are taking full advantage of it. The 1-15 CORE project is moving along swiftly, as are other projects close to home. While traffic through the University Parkway intersection at Sandhill road is being shifted north for the first phase of the continuous flow intersection and pedestrian undercrossing , northbound lanes from Sandhill into the intersection will be closed for the installation of a storm drain. The lane closure is expected to last from Jan. 8 until Jan. 13. Northbound drivers are encouraged to use 1430 South to 400 West as an alternate route to access University Parkway. According to UDOT Public Relations Manager Leigh Dethman, all of the commotion at this intersection is part of an effort to "enhance safety and improve mobility." This area has long since needed such efforts — not just Dr. Nalini Nadk Professor , Department of Biology University of Utah Life in e Tree, tops: 4:4 Prisoners reachers, &Poets as Partn spin Understanding the Forest Canopy responsibilities." UVU has multiple coordinators to help in dealing with the compliance of Title IX and for making sure the school shows equality on campus to all its students and employees. Many schools still deal with inequality and the issues that stem from men and women not being able to share the same things. But gender is not the only problem; people are still discriminated against for color, age and socioeconomic status. The main reason schools need coordinators is to make sure that the rules associated with Title IX are being followed and that no one is discriminated against. These coordinators can be found in places like the human resources department as well as the athletic department, making sure the school does its best to follow the rules to support equality. Title IX encourages equal opportunity in the U.S. to learn, grow and become better. Title IX exists to try to help everyone. CELL PHONES FROM Al In the age of technology, it is difficult to find a college student who doesn't own a cell phone. Unfortunately, students on UVU campus are not always as connected as they would like to be. Though being connected to one's cell phone 24/7 is not ideal, emergencies occur and being able to have quick access to a cell phone is almost a necessity in today's world. To conduct an experiment, four students on campus, each with different cell phone providers, visited major buildings on the main campus to test their signal strength. Though there were factors such as the specific cell phone and what floors of the building they were on, results showed that students with T-Mobile had overall better reception on the main campus, while AT&T appeared to because it's where the largest university in the state sits, but also because it is the secondbusiest intersection in the state of Utah. Orem 800 North will also be closed at I-15 from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Jan. 4-12. Crews will be removing old bridge supports and no traffic will be allowed eastbound or westbound under the freeway. The snow may not be here yet, but history tells that it is sure to come. UDOT urges drivers to "know before you go," and has made a wide variety of tools to use to stay aware of traffic conditions. However, even Verizon was not able to stand up to the challenge of getting good reception on the UVU campus. Verizon's coverage seems to be strongest in the Midwest and weakest on the West Coast, according to the site's coverage map. In Utah, the coverage is half and half, with Orem included in the good half. According to the AT&T's coverage map, their presence is stronger from the Midwest to the East Coast, leaving many areas on the West Coast with little or no coverage at all. T-Mobile, the campus winner, has overall scarce coverage in Utah, but according to their coverage map, they seem to have almost excel- lent coverage in Orem, revealing no dead spots. Sprint's coverage map shows that they provide overall good coverage throughout the United States. Upon further inspection, however, Sprint coverage is lacking in Utah with its strongest signal only along 1-15. All the providers say that within coverage areas, things can still affect a customer's reception like: foliage, weather conditions, traffic volume, obstructions, the device, proximity to buildings, terrain and construction. All four coverage maps claim to have coverage at the school's address, but the experiment, frustrations from students around campus and a few of the signal hindering factors listed on their websites , reception within the school's walls reveal an entirely different story. |
