Show SPORTS B6 Kira Terry/UVU Review Sammie Jensen finished the season averaging 14 points per game and 10.7 rebounds. BASKETBALL continued from B4 is divisive. It's really frustrating for everybody to lose games because we're working hard. You're working equally as hard when you're loosing as when you're winning most of the time." Nixon went on to add, "Really I think it's a great tribute to each one of them individually and to them collectively as a team that they chose to stay on board with each other, they chose to stay on board with us as coaches and they chose to continue to work hard. And I think that's what enabled us to be able to peak at the end of the year and to start being a pretty good team by the end of the year." As her 16th season came to an end, Nixon looked around for her seniors she'd say goodbye to, only to realize she didn't have to say any goodbyes this time around. "That felt different," said Nixon. "I've never had a team that didn't have gradu- ating people, even as a junior college. To have no seniors was definitely a change, but awesome. It's a different feel and helps me to be optimistic about next year and know a little bit more about what to expect." Following the GWC tournament, newcomer Sammie Jensen was named to the All-Tournament team. Jensen averaged 18 points and 12.5 rebounds in their two games and finished the season with an average of 14 points per game and 10.7 rebounds. Although the season ended sooner than hoped, Nixon praised her roster's hard work throughout the season saying, "I'm proud of the girls for sticking with it. It's not easy to go through the learning process like we did at the beginning of the year. We would have loved to be in that championship game and have a chance to repeat, but I really was pleased with how we finished the year." GOLF continued from B4 the competition. The Wolverine roster was led by Carlin as he finished in 62nd place with rounds of 82, 73 and 80 while Casper finished the tournament in a tie for 68th thanks to his best round of the tournament shooting (75). Juniors Joey Olsen and Nick Tarasiewicz tied for 71st and freshman Stratton Schulz finished tied for 73rd place. Rather than dwell on the past, Coach Curran was optimistic about the remaining three tournaments of the season. They will be in action today and tomorrow in Alabama to compete in the Grub-Mart Young 011 Collegiate. The Wolverines will then have a 10-day break before heading back out on the road to the UK Bluegrass Invitaitonal in Lexington, Kentucky before the American Sky Conference championship in Scottsdale, Ariz., May 2-5. 1SPOR 1 S BRIEFS' Benson Named GWC Offensive Player of the Week cago State's Gregory Day earned the conference's Pitcher of the Week award. UV U BASEBALL continued from B4 Utah most recently. "You try and stay positive, but it's tough because I think we've missed on some opportunities that we've had against some very good programs," said Madsen. Although Madsen is disappointed, he still sees a lot of potential in his roster. "For the most part I think they know they are a good team and I think they just want to keep playing and they hope it's going to turn around — and it will — but it's good that they are a little more positive than we are. Last season saw a similar start. The Wolverines sat at 6-10 about the same time last year, but with a smaller gap of a losing streak and a couple more wins on the road. "Early last year we didn't play great on the road and then we kind of turned it around and started to play really good on the road," said Madsen. Madsen remains positive for their upcoming road trip and said, "I think this road trip will be good for us. Obviously its tough to win on the road, but you can find a way to turn your season around on the road too." After two weeks of road games, the Wolverines will return to home field to host in-state rival University of Utah on April 12 at 6:00 p.m. The end of April and, much of May will be the fans best opportunity to catch the Wolverines in action with 18 homes games scheduled.
