The Owlz took Home run derby night was a fitting name for the Owlz Friday night as two home runs gave them the "W" over the Helena Brewers. It was a slow beginning at Brent Brown Ballpark Jast week as the Owlz met the Brewers in the first game of a three-game set. It was pop flies and outs until the fourth inning when Luis Jimenez pounded the first one over the fence and put some runs on the board. Jimenez was also put into the double digits with his 10th home run of the season. The excitement came in the seventh inning. The Brewers stepped into the game when leftfielder Chris Dennis save them their run a scowling 1-4 trail as they went into the bottom of the 7th. It was Tyson Auer who stepped up to the plate and tied the game with one swing after a booming three-run shot cleared the centerfield wall and brought the Owlz back into the game. "The thing is...two bats before, he hit a ball to deep right center," said manager Tom Kotchman, "He has been a really pleasant surprise for a kid who wasn't drafted!" The game went into the 10th inning and the Owlz took the game after Brewer pitcher Daniel Meadows intentionally walked Roberto Lopez to load the bases with only one out giving the Owlz a very good chance at the win. "I wouldn't pitch to him either," said Kotchman. Jimenez then grounded a ball infield, but a missed catch at first prevented the double play for the Brewers and the Owlz came out victorious 5-4. The Owlz middle infield struggled a little towards the middle of play, which is normally a strong point for the team. They went through three pitchers throughout the night. "Miller was excellent... he did his normal job out there." He only allowed one earned run during the entire game. Scholl was put in late in the game to replace Miller. "Scholl came in and stranded an inherited runner* and we got a win out of it!" The goal gave Salt Lake the lead early in the half, but was taken away in the 84'h minute when Toronto's Amado Guevera scored on a free kick beating RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando in the left corner to knot the score at 1-1. In a defining moment of the season RSL ralLied to regain the lead in the 87lh minute when forward Robbie Findley delivered the knock-oul punch as he slid through the box putting the ball in the back of the net to secure the 2-1 victory. "To give up a goal like (we) did late in the game, and to re- act the way they did just makes me incredibly proud to be leading this group, but also to feel like I am a part of this group," Kries said. "People out there need to wake up a little bit and realize that this is good soccer team, and now a winning soccer team." With the win Real holds onto first place in the West, and also for the first time in team history has a winning record at 7-6-6. Heading into the second half of the season a lot of the way RSL finishes will have to do with how it performs on the road. Favre moving to the Northeast After reporting to Green Bay Packers training camp last week future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Brett Favre made it clear that he wouldn't be playing for his former team this coming season. Upon his arrival in Green Bay, Favre and coach Mike McCarthy met and discussed his future with the team before both decided it was best for Favre to move on. Shortly after Favre asked to be released a deal was completed that will send him to the New York Jets for a conditional draft pick which will depend a lot on how Favre performs. As of now Green Bay receives a fourth round pick from the Jets, but the more Favre plays and if the Jets make the playoffs that pick could become a third, second or even a first round selection. 'MHMrttf After completing his senior season at Utah Valley University in the 2007-08 season Jordan Brady will continue his basketball career as a member of the Luxembourg Racing this fall.
