Show .*.*. MONDAY, APRIL 14, 2008 * THE COLLEGE TIMES wi B7 with Luke Hickman, Jason Pyles, and Matthew A. Jonassaint Life editor and Life writers ) - Release date: July 18,2008 Warner Bros. jfomb'on Bale as Batman and Heath Lucius Fox, and Christian Bale as Batman, Gotham's Dark Knight. • Any additions? You bet. We get some minor cameos, like the famous nerd from Sixteen Candles, as well as United States senator Patrick Leahy. But more importantly, Aaron Eckhart (Thank You For Smoking) is playing Harvey Dent, the man destined to become Two-Face. Harvey Dent, Gotham's district attorney, works with Batman and Gordon as one of the few good guys. Who are the bad guys? Batman's comic book roots bring to the screen Salvatore Maroni (played by Eric Roberts, seen on Heroes), a mob boss at odds with another group. The plot seems like a cross between a love triangle, a detective mystery, a gang-war episode and a psychological crime thriller. Aside from the story, the making of The Dark Knight is inventive on every level. In addition to one of the most esteemed posthumous performances by an actor in film history, the film has the most innovative marketing campaign in entertainment history. There's an online game involving scavenger hunts all over the country for cakes and bowling balls, puzzles requiring phone calls to Gotham politicians and policemen, receiving newspapers and clown masks in the mail, voting for the next district attorney, and more. The game efficiently creates a story for the events that occur between the first and second films. The Dark Knight's cinematography is also revolutionary: Nolan used IMAX cameras for several scenes, and the viewing experience will be beyond compare. The groundbreaking sequel to Batman Begins may end up • being the most anticipated film of the year. Joining Carell in this comedy is Anne Hathaway, Alan Arkin, Bill Murray and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. (Hickman) Wall-E (not yet rated) - Release date: June 27,2008 Like several other previewed summer flicks, not much is known about Disney and Pixar's Wall-E. After Earth is trashed and abandoned by us selfish humans, a tiny robot named Wall-E is left all alone to clean up the mess. When unknown visitors show up on Earth, the inquisitive little robot gets picked up and taken with them on an adventure through the galaxy. Just because everyone else is hopping on the Pixar bandwagon and praising every piece of crap it shoots out {The Incredibles, Cars and Ratatouille), doesn't mean you have to, too. (Hickman) Wanted (not yet rated) Release date: June 27, 2008 Here we go again. Another action movie where an elite team of truth seekers recruits a promising newbie and teaches him how to defy the laws of physics for the sake of cool-looking action, a la Matrix. Angelina Jolie stars as the trainer; James McAvoy, from the boring film Atonement, plays the trainee. Don't expect anything more from this typical, summer, effectsdriven movie than fun action, cool sequences and Angelina Jolie playing the same action char-, acter she always plays.. (Hickman) Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D (PG) Release date: July 11,2008 Based on Jules Veme's 1864 novel that inspired at least 11 other film and television adaptations, Journey 3-D revisits a scientist's (Brendan Fraser) exploration of a fantastical netherworld beneath the Earth's surface. And, not only will it no doubt cheerfully exploit the ^W \ \ , 3-D gimmick, Journey 1 3-D will be the "first \ live-action, digital, 3-D movie." (Pyles) { • v ... While it probably won't be, Pineapple Express looks like it might be the movie that brings the; Apatow productions to a ,- ,The fear with Pineapple Express is that it appears to be a one-trick pony, much like the '9,0s stoner hit, Half-Baked. To write the script for Pineapple Express, Rogen re-teamed with 'Superbad cowriter and lifelong friend, Evan Goldberg.
