Show WWW.NETXNEWS.NET MONDAY • MARCH 5 • 2007 Finished on a high note Webster's Wisdom Ben Webster Sports Editor The NFL Dog Show It's that time of the year where the attention on the NFL is focused on those who haven't yet laced it up in the big league against the top competition and who yet get all the love for what they could, maybe possibly do. The NFL world shuts out the fans and most of the media, except for the NFL Network, when executives, coaches, scouts and draft hopefuls converge on Indianapolis for the NFL Scouting Combine or the NFL dog show. Players are poked, prodded, weighed and tested in every conceivable way every year to determine their value. There are winners and losers, although no trophies are given out, but every sports media outlet will list the best and the worst and even name them winners and losers. The winners will make more money for themselves, their families, their agents and whoever else is in their entourage. The combine makes or breaks a guy's draft position, and that equals his monetary value. The players are tested in the 40-yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, broad jump, three-cone drill, 20-yard shuttle, 60yard shuttle, position specific drills, physical measurements, interviews, the Wonderlic test, the Cybex test I fk U Lacrosse against Utah State, I f* U Rugby vs. Idaho State, TB A Wolverines dominate Highlanders on senior day James Warnick Sports Writer T eam Captain Veva Ahlstrom came up big for the Wolverines on senior day, as she propelled her team to a 71-40 victory over New Jersey Tech guaranteeing the women their first .500 season since jumping to Division I. Ahlstrom is the team's only senior this season and this year the transfer, back up point guard, has taken more of a leadership role for the young team. Before the contest she was recognized at center court by the school's athletic director, Mike Jacobsen. Ahlstrom was congratulated for her hard work and dedication as a Wolverine. The senior was rewarded even more so by Coach Cathy Nixon as she played in over 22 minutes of action in the game. She finished her home collegiate basketball career with seven points, three assists, a rebound and a steal. After playing in her final home game Ahlstrom said, "It was fun; I was just taking it all in out there. When I came off I realized that this is it and that I've loved every moment of it. It ended well and this team is awesome, they are amazing! Now I have to move forward and do different things with my life. There is just a feeling out there that you experience when you play and I'm going to miss it." Sophomore center Robyn Fairbanks added about Ahlstrom, "She's an awesome leader and person; we are going to miss her a lot." In the game Fairbanks led the way for her team again as she pulled down her tenth doubledouble of the season with 22 points and 10 boards.
