Sure there are the classes you don't mind, and there are classes that are even fun at times. Then there are classes that are truly despicable, but are required. Who in their right mind really likes all aspects of school? That being said the many different lessons you learn, other than how to study, are irreplaceable. All the unwanted papers, presentations, busy work and what seems like general nonsense that you will of course forget after finals: all real knowledge you can take from school. The engrained work ethic on route to receiving that little piece of paper that is supposed to guarantee that you get a good and secure job for the rest of your life. When you have your job in the work force and you have to do a presentation or do a report for your boss or brainstorm ideas for a new product, it is then you will say to yourself, "I've done this many times before." Of course, it is possible to be successful and accomplish what you want in your career without graduating. But it is that much harder and it takes that Local music venue celebrates one year Caz Bevan Life Writer Provo's finest and most eclectic live music venue, Velour, will be celebrating their One-year Anniversary Extravaganza on Jan. 12 and 13 with some of Utah's most popular bands. I'm sure there are people more capable of certain jobs that just don' t have the required "education" so they are overlooked. But the world needs proof these days. Besides, getting through four years of college isn't exactly the easiest thing. So with the new semester upon us we should just grit our teeth and get to work. And take it from one of the most brilliant minds in the history of our country, Thomas Jefferson, who once said, "I find that the harder I work the more luck I seem to have." much longer to achieve it without some form of higher education. It's just the way the world is these days. It seems you just won't be taken seriously if you don't have a degree, and the more schooling the better. According to the Census Bureau, after the span of a person's working life, high school graduates will earn an average of $1.2 million; associates degree holders earn about $1.6 million; and bachelor degree holders earn about $2.1 million (Day and Newburger, 2002). A college degree is pretty much the difference between getting hourly wages and three other Utah Valley venues before opening Velour.
