Welcome From HIV • A1 "One of the concerns that I've had is whether Utah's college population is aware of the HIV/AIDS epidemic," Rowan said. "We want to find out how much the college population understands AIDS and if they know how at-risk they are for the disease." As a public health professional. Rowan has always been interested in HIV/AIDS research. Three years ago, she began a study abroad course at UVSC to do a service-learning project on HIV/AIDS. Each year, students from various majors travel to Ghana to educate youth, train youth leaders and provide support and funding for the HIV/ AIDS awareness and education program in Ghana. "We can impact about 70 percent of African youth by sending out our youth leaders to organizations like the YMCA/YWCA, which are very popular in Ghana," Rowan said. "We're making a huge difference there, and hope to make a big difference in Utah as well." {netxnews.net} year Backpacks 20% Off January -12,0 ^ Buy a 17" iMac or 13 MacBook and Applecare Warranty and get a FREE iPod Shuffle.
