(AP) - Brett Favre has had enough. After a wild ride marked by fist-pumping highs, headshaking lows and a record number of consecutive starts, GREEN BAY PACKERS QUARTERBACK BRETT FAVRE reacts after throw- ing a 57 yard touchdown pass to Antonio Freeman in the first quarter against the Tennessee Oilers in Green Bay, Wis., in this Dec. 20, 1998 file photo. Brett Favre has decided to retire from the NFL after 17 seasons. (AP Photo/Morry Gash, file) the 38-year-old quarterback told the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday that he intends to retire. "I know I can still play, but it's like I told my wife, I'm just tired mentally. I'm just tired " one of the NFL's greatest players told ESPN's Chris Mortensen in a voice mail message. The man who completed more passes than anyone in history will let that last throw — an interception in the NFC championship game that set up the New York Giants' winning field goal — stand as his final toss. Even the prospect of playing in one more Super Bowl couldn't convince him to stay. "To go to the Super Bowl and lose, would almost be worse than anything else," Favre told ESPN. "Anything less than a Super Bowl win would be unsuccessful." This time, Favre's fans won't have to endure another long winter wondering whether he'll return. "I think the finality of it just kind of hits you," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said. "Brett Favre's not going to be our quarterback anymore." Threat: NAFTA no good 01 continued from page 14 for North America. Among other things, it calls for the creation of North American Advisory Council, which would, according to the report, have an advisory role to the three governments. It would also monitor the implementation of its recommendations. Also called for by the report is the creation of a North American Parliament, as well as a Permanent Tribunal on Trade and Investment. The report further calls for the creation of a North American Customs Union with a common external tariff. To add to this, the need for a common "security parameter" is also called for. To ensure the security of this border, a North American Customs and Immigration force should be established. As for security within the border, the Department of Homeland Security would take a larger role, and expand its authority throughout North America. Clearly, if the recommendations of this report are followed, the United States would exist in name only. We would be under the authority of a new, unelected government, and our borders would be virtually non-existent. We would become the citizens of a North American Union. The three-time MVP walks away with most of the NFL's significant passing records — most career touchdown passes, most career yards passing and most career victories by a starting quarterback — and a victory in the 1997 Super Bowl. As the Packers cheered Favre's touchdowns and victories (and cringed at his NFLleading 288 interceptions) his body was breaking down. "After a while it takes a Better: Make valuable changes \lcontinued from page 14 to eat after 4 p.m. The Hub seems to close earlier and earlier every day. I understand business is not the best in the evening, but if USU wants to be better, they have to care about the 25 or 15 or even five students affected when the Hub closes early. Those students that are so sick of eating QuickStop hotdogs every night, they'd rather go hungry than eat another one, which we all know doesn't make studying easier. Second suggestion: I would love it if I could get a real person on the phone at the registrar's office. I've called in my own behalf and in the behalf of other students and I've never talked to a real person on the phone. To get anything done, ! always have visit the office in person, and then there is always a line. I know that office is busy. But even if USU had to tack an extra dollar onto every students' tuition so they could hire someone Colby Lyons is a senior majoring in law and constitutional studies.
