The vigil paid tribute to the nine lives lost after a university van rolled near Tremonton Monday, killing eight students and one instructor. 9 dead after blown tire causes van to roll near Tremonton BY MARIE MACKAY Hundreds gather to remember lives at candlelight vigil Assistant News Editor Utah State University faculty and students offered their "hope, love and support" Tuesday after a fatal accident that killed eight Utah State University students and one instructor Monday. During what should have been the College of Agriculture's annual "Ag Week," the university was in mourning as students pinned white ribbons on their clothes and participated in a candlelight vigil on the Taggart Student Center Patio. "We are banded together to support our fellow Aggies," Cody Bingham, ASUSU Agriculture senator, said. "The effort we've seen so far shows what it means to be a true Aggie." The accident occurred Monday around 4:30 p.m. when a group of ten students from the College of Agriculture and their instructor, Evan Parker, were returning to Logan on Interstate 84 in a 15-passenger university van after an agriculturalfieldtrip. The van's left rear tire blew out, causing the vehicle to skid out of control and roll several times off the right side of the road, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Ed Michaud said. All 11 individuals were ejected from the vehicle. Six were pronounced dead on the scene and three individuals died later that evening. Killed were: Steven D. That's what was felt Tuesday night at a candlelight vigil held at Utah State University to pay tribute to the eight students and one instructor who were killed in a 15-passenger van accident Monday. More than 1,000 students, family members, faculty and friends with white ribbons pinned to their shirts and lit white candles in their hands, stood in silence remembering those involved in the accident. "Let us remember those who have passed on • and the flame that they provided," said Cody Bingham, ASUSU Agriculture senator. "May our small token of hope, love and support provide a warmth to those individuals and families involved." A feeling of sadness but peace was left in the air on the Taggart Student Center patio throughout the entire vigil service. "This has been an incredibly sad 26 hours," said Noelle Cockett, interim provost and dean of the College of Agriculture. "But as 1 look out and see you here, I am comforted by your presence."
