Show TO mm PROTEST PAYMENT OF occupation mine owners and leasers of cintio tintic feel that new tax mea sure is unjust amounts to about 6 per cent of earnings earning mine owners and leasers of the district are now how receiving no 0 o 4 tices cices of the amounts which they will be expected to pay on their net pro ceede tor for the year 1917 under the terms of the state states s occupation tax law not only are the state off officers calling upon these mining operator for three per cent of their profit tor for the last bear ear but the counties in which the mines are located are like wise reaching out tor for some of th s easy money notices which havi havo b been een issued from the county t ea surer s office indicate that the coun ty taxes on the net proceeds from mines and blocks of mining ground worked under the leasing system w will amount to another three per cent or approximately that amount this means that the company or in who made money in the op aeration of mining property during 1917 will have these taxes added to the federal taxes in the opinion of some of the more prominent attorneys of the state this new occupation tax law is un constitutional and decidedly unjust because it places more than a pro per proportion of the taxes upon the mines J consequently it is quite likely that the measure will be test ed out in the courts and for that rea son all leasers of the district should pay under protest some sol t 9 have already been made but in nearly every case notice of protest has been given |
