WOMEN'S Continued from page 7 of the same as the Utes got outscored by io points and didn't cut into the lead at all. UCLA outmatched them physically and also played a full-court press despite being up by as many as 3o points. "UCLA has nine kids that can start games and really play," Levrets said. "Give them credit. They do a great job." Alyssia Brewer finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists for the Bruins and Atonye Nyingifa had 13 points and eight boards. Plouffe finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Rodrigues scored II, just three of which came in the second half. Utah didn't do itself any favors by surrendering 18 turnovers. Levrets said although the mindset is to win every game, he is happy with the split his team had during the weekend. He hopes players get healthy upon returning home, since the Utes' schedule is favorable the rest of the season. They have no games against currently ranked teams the rest of the way. Utah (ii-io, 2-8 Pac-12) played both games without starting power forward Taryn Wicijowski, who is out with a torn meniscus. There is still no update from the team on how long she will be sidelined. Utah will return home to play this weekend at the Huntsman Center for the first time since Jan. 20. The Utes will take on their foes from the Beaver State, as Oregon and Oregon State will make the trip to Salt Lake City. m.smith@chronicle.utah.edu Twitter: @smithmichael8 DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE GYMNASTICS Continued from page 6 "I think she's really feeling it now and feels really in control of [her vault]," Marsden said of Wilson. "It looks different than everybody else's and when she drops out of the air and nails it, it is spectacular." Vault seems to be emerging as the Utes' strongest event as they matched their season-high with a 49.325. They were third in the nation on vault going into Friday night. The vault routines continued with exhibition performances from Mary Beth Lofgren, who scored a 9.8, and CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: The Student Media Council is now accepting applications for Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Utah Chronicle. The Utes' other big man, Dallin Bachynski, played io energetic minutes after rejoining the team following a break from active competition for a few days. "I just went in there and played hard and I was able to find some gaps in the defense and they were able to get me the ball on the block," Olsen said. "I knew I had to be ready because Loveridge was out today." The contributions from the big men nearly became moot, though, as Utah returned to its sluggish ways after building up the big lead. Having committed just two turnovers in the first half, the Utes coughed the ball up five times in the final io minutes 44 seconds alone. Utah didn't make a field goal in that span, missing all five of its attempts. The Buffaloes scored 28 points after Martin's three and after having scored just 27 in the previous 28 minutes of play. Dinwiddie, who led all scorers with 18, scored io in that time period. "We were paralyzed," Krystkowiak said. "We need to work on game situations at the end ... It's a learning experience. It's one of the few times this season that it's a learning experience for us when we didn't lose the game." Washburn said the win is a nice confidence boost as Utah will now head to Oregon for two games this week. "Coach K always says winning's the best medicine," he said. "It boosts all of our morale ... with the win right behind us, it's gonna feel good, we're gonna feel confident. We're gonna try to go in there and pull some wins out." r.mcdonald@chronicle.utah.edu Twitter: @ryanwmcdonald 14111101uNiviimmump....... Haley Lange, who earned a 9.825. With the loss of Lothrop it will likely be one of them who will move into the starting lineup to take her place. Lofgren and Wilson also performed exhibition routines on bars, with each earning a 9.75. Georgia Dabritz, who ended up as the only all-around competitor at the meet, finished with a 38.9. The defending Pac-12 bars champion was impressive on that event as she stuck a difficult routine and matched her career-best score of 9.95. However, she also fell off the beam for the second consecutive meet and settled for a 9.15 that was dropped. "I felt good coming off the first two events and I wanted a little bit of redemption on beam," Dabritz said. "I did great in the first two meets and then the past two I've just let it slip. [Assistant coach Tom] Farden came up to me after and said they aren't giving up on me, so I have to keep working in the gym." A Utah gymnast took every event title and the all-around for the third straight meet, with Lothrop scoring a season-best 9.875 to take the beam.
