Show DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE Monday, February 4, 2013 7 BULLINGER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL Continued from page 6 The Super Bowl is the most obvious reminder that sports are nothing but commercial entertainment, yet few pick up on it. People glorify athletes tremendously — they're often immortalized as heroes and warriors — but what they really do is sell tickets and ads. Ray Lewis is no differ- ent from Johnny Depp. He's just more beat up at the end of the workday. Football fans, if you're ashamed to admit you watch, and love, Super Bowl ads, let it go. You might not realize it, but that's the main reason you watch the game. It's all about commercialization. Just as I marveled at the play making of Colin Kaepernick and Joe Flacco, I'll marvel at the cool POV shot of the baby wearing a GoPro camera. The lasting effect of the Super Bowl won't be that the Ravens won. Instead, it will be that baby Clydesdales failed once again to convince me to drink Budweiser, that Doritos still shouldn't be morphed into a taco shell, and that, yes, these Calvin Klein underoos do make my abs look more defined. j.bullinger@chronicle.utah.edu Twitter: @jakebullinger The only letter you actually want to write... The Utes split their two contests in the Golden State, beating USC 63-6o Friday night before losing to UCLA 70-42 Sunday afternoon. They couldn't have played any differently in the two matchups, as a hard-fought win was followed by an embarrassing blowout. On Friday, Utah beat the Trojans after being down by four at halftime. Iwalani Rodrigues led the Utes with a season high of 23 points and Paige Crozon hit two crucial free throws with four seconds left to give Utah a three-point lead. UCLA's desperation heave at the buzzer didn't go and the Utes won on the ESPN 700 Postgame their second Pac-12 game of Show. "They're a very talthe season. Crozon tied her ented basketball team.
