I couldn't exactly isolate the reasons behind my unhappiness, but as I find myself halfway through my third year at the U, I think I've finally figured out why I was never content. I intentionally never got involved with student programming during high school. I had never participated in any clubs, afterschool activities or even attended my high school football games. My path to on-campus involvement and leadership started with a simple invitation in my second year to join my fraternity, Kappa Sigma. After an initial intention to meet friends and hang out, I began using Kappa Sigma as a resource. After meeting an incredible alumni base and a ton of friends to assist me, I branched out even further. I soon found myself employed with two on-campus organizations, and took a leadership role as the vice president of my fraternity. In my adventures with The Daily Utah Chronicle, I can safely say that being a reporter has taught me more about my surroundings than any class I've ever taken. I've explored countless student groups, colleges and departments, U organizations and local Salt Lake life. It's an experience that I'm grateful for. My father has been to Utah on four separate occasions. The most recent time he traveled out here, I distinctly remember strolling around campus and seeing several Uta h utes. co m . www.dailyutahchronicle.com Online: Business Building gallery SCOTT WISEMAN Staff-Writer people from many walks of life. We exchanged hellos and parted ways. My dad remarked that he had never seen someone so present and deeply involved with their school. I'll never forget it. When I came to the U, I wanted to snowboard, do a little bit of partying and get through school as fast as I could. When I settled down, I found myself with friends in several departments, organizations and lifestyles. Diversity will teach you more than a classroom will—every time. So I transformed myself from someone with a small number of friends in high school to a young man with many connections all throughout the campus. I still love to snowboard and participate in my individual hobbies, but dedicating myself to being present and a leader in organizations has become my new passion. You'll also find me at every Utes home game, cheering as loud as I can in the MUSS. Take a leap of faith—get involved. As a close friend once told me: "It's nothing but an opportunity. Make sure you at least try something before you regret not trying it." s.wiseman@chronicle.utah.edu Oop 0•2^9oe0e @mrtylerpeterson tyler peterson Power outage is currently trending at #uofu #hotnews Nov @redsoxunixgeek 3, nitty Dear #UofU seriously?
