What are the admissions requirements? Do I need to take an admissions test? Do I need letters of recommendation? Is prior experience or research required? Is there a GPA cutoff? How long does it take for most students to complete a masters or PhD in this field? What is the real cost of a graduate degree in tuition, fees, housing, and time out of the workforce? What schools and programs give the best value for my investment? What is the job market for people with this degree? What does the outlook look like in the future? 9. What is the timetable for getting into a graduate program? When do you need to start getting your application materials together and when is the deadline for admissions? 10. Have you spoken to advisors, professors, or graduate students in your program of interest? Do you know what kind of research they are involved in? Is there a thesis involved? What do students think of their graduate experience? What can you do to prepare? Research the web sites for the graduate programs you are interested in. Talk to admissions advisors from the programs you are interested in. Use the Career Library in the Student Services Bldg., specifically the books in the "Graduate School" section. Make sure to see the books titled Petersen's Guide to Graduate Schools" and "Game Plan for Getting Into Graduate School. Research graduate degrees before you invest. These class weekends are Friday 5-9 and Saturday 9-5, usually two per class per semester.
