The Eugene, Ore. native, a University of Oregon alumnus, played golf for the Ducks, another member of the Pac12 Conference. "Joining the Pac-12 will bring an exciting challenge for the guys," he said. "I'm looking forward to heading back to courses I played on and using my knowledge of it to help my players in this new conference." The 2010 season team relied heavily on four seniors and fell short of expectations. The team had what McCracken called "growing pains." However, McCracken said the last season functioned as a learning experience for both the team as a whole and for individual players. Many players grew to play vital roles within the season and during the Mountain West Conference Tournament. Senior Mike Branca and true freshman Ben Bankhead both placed in the Top 20 for the MWC Championships. "I came in as a freshman not really knowing what to expect and ended up improving with the help of my coach and the four seniors on our team," Bankhead said. Next season's roster consists of a young team of quality players that need to gain vital experience quickly in one of the nation's top college golf conferences. Along with Bankhead, Joe Webber, Daniel Engel and other new promising recruits have set the bar high. "I feel like our new roster will match up well against those within the Pac-12 Conference," Bankhead said. "It definitely will be more competitive, but I believe we can match up with them well." "Patience and a harder work ethic is what they need KRYSTOWIAK continued from Page D10 GRIFOLS try to get better tomorrow," Krystkowiak said. "I've always been a firm believer that you just control what you can control right now and things kind of take care of themselves.. We're just gonna try to punch in and give an honest day's work, and hopefully the fans can start finding a relationship with our team—but it will not be built overnight." Despite the fact that the U's practice time falls short of the times of teams from the North and the Southwest because of snow and poor weather conditions, the team is determined to do well in its first season in the new conference. For the golfers, accepting the challenge and doing the work expected of them will be the key to fitting in with other teams in the Pac-12. "I've had my ups and downs, but you don't wake up and have excuses," Krystkowiak said. "It's not a bad blueprint to have, not just for me, but for anybody. You just try to control what you can, then you wake up the next day and do it again..If you are doing that, trying to stay true to working hard, more times than not, I think you come out the other end successful." p.lee@ chronicle.utah.edu BUY ONLINE NOW skisolitude.com/preseason Also, purchase in person Labor Day Weekend, during the SNIAGRAB Sale at $39 w/ ROLLOVER (Save $47) 'Jowls, a Nordic Center, a fun park and Visit us online at skisolitude.com for full details. some of the greatest off-piste terrain in the country.
