Show DAILY UTAH CHRONICLE 10 ABBOTT continued from Page 6 `You ought to think about running the 5K.' She thought about it and eventually decided to try it." Abbott's view of the accomplishment is humble compared to Kepler's. "My goal was just to run a smart race and finish better than I have during the season," Abbot said. "I feel like I accomplished that." Abbott was not the only Ute who found success this past weekend. Ke- pler said five Utes posted times that would have qualified for last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships. Amanda Mergaert posted a personal record in the 15oom with a time of four minutes 23.51 seconds. Highjumper Brianna LeRoy also notched a new personal record with a 5-foot 8.75-inch jump. Utah's successful outing came in no part because of competition rhythm. The cancellation of the Utah Spring Classic gave the Utes an unexpected week off, but a well-constructed practice regimen kept them fresh. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 "You like that consistency, and you worry when you get thrown out of your rhythm," Kepler said. "But we had some great practices at the indoor facility, and that helped us keep our rhythm. We had some really good weather out at California, and we took advantage of it." The Utes will next compete at the Robison Invitational at BYU on Friday. Abbott and Mergaert will compete at Cal-Berkeley and the rest of the team will be in Provo. j.bullinger@ chronicle.utah.edu Register on hronicleis website: ailirutahchronicle.corn/ resister Commencement NEWS 2011 RIDAY, MAY 64r2O VOmmencement Ceremoff IP.00,0' 9:00 AM ond<HuntstriaCeanter‘ of,giaduates begins at 8: e HURSDAY, MAY 5, 2011 College of Health — fi College of Nursin College of Social Work= on M.
