Guns belong with the police or armed services, not with idiots walking around campus shooting at things. People from Utah really need to look outside their upbringing and see how ridiculous this mentality is, and how dangerous. Hey, let's just block off 1-80 and all drink and drive???? What a blast!!! BAHRAIN The government lifted its ban on the main opposition newspaper after the editor resigned. The one-day ban was the latest step in a crackdown against protests rocking the tiny, strategic island kingdom. The paper, Al-Wasat, was expected to appear again on Monday. Majority Shiite Muslims are leading the protests against a Sunni dynasty that has ruled for two centuries. Anonymous p osted 4.1.11 @ 8:48 a.m. Is this an April Fools Day joke? It's ludicrous! Strong quake hits off southern Indonesia JAKARTA, Indonesia—A strong earthquake hit off Indonesia's main island of Java Monday, prompting authorities to briefly issue a tsunami warning and sending thousands of residents fleeing their homes in panic. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the 6.7-magnitude quake, which struck shortly after 3 a.m. Monday. The U.S. Geological Survey said the temblor was centered nearly 200 miles off southern Java, just 15 miles beneath the ocean floor. Thousands of people in the town of Cilacap poured into the streets and ran to high ground, many gathering in mosques, witnesses told El Shinta radio. Ninety minutes later, when the threat of a tsunami had passed, they were told to go home. Indonesia, the world's largest archipelago, is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the "Ring of Fire." Ariz. law bans abortions based on race or gender PHOENIX—Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has signed what is likely the first legislation in the nation to ban abortions over ethnicity. The law makes it a Class 3 felony to knowingly perform or provide financing for an abortion sought because of the race or sex of the fetus or a parent's race. The maximum punishment if convicted is 31/2 years in prison. Supporters said the measure is an important statement against discrimination and for life. "We are a multicultural society now and cultures are bringing their traditions to America that really defy the values of America, including cultures that value males over females," said state Sen. Nancy Barto, a Scottsdale Republican who supports the bill. Supporters disagreed with opponents over whether there's evidence that race and sex selection-based agendas are actually occurring in Arizona. EnergySolutions sues former VP over business deal SALT LAKE CITY—EnergySolutions is suing a former vice president of sales, claiming he engaged in a fraudulent business deal with a Draper company that allowed him and that company to profit from below market disposal rates. For his part, Bryan Melchior said allegations in the suit are "absolutely false" and "slanderous." The suit, filed Thursday in 3rd District Court, alleges Melchior had a relationship "extending beyond the normal customer relationship" with a managing member of Ingen VK while negotiating a disposal agreement with the company, the Deseret News reported. The complaint claims Melchior never disclosed his relationship with Ingen to EnergySolutions, and that he secretly modified the contract with Ingen after getting signatures from EnergySolutions' legal department approving the deal. Quran protests continue in Afghanistan Agreement reached on Utah drilling project SALT LAKE CITY—A drilling company and a coalition of environmental groups have reached a compromise over a natural gas extraction project in Uintah County. The Deseret News reports the conservation groups and Denverbased Enduring Resources agreed to a plan that significantly scales back an earlier proposal that had been contested in federal court. The agreement involves the Rock House Project near White River, where the company obtained the federal Bureau of Land Management's approval in 2007 to drill. ■ Afghan protestors beat a burning effigy of President Barack Obama during a demonstration in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Afghan protests against the burning of a Quran in Florida entered a third day, while the Taliban called on people to rise up, blaming government forces for any violence.
