Show B4 WASATCH COUNTY COURIER MAY 16, 2001 LOOKS aT BOOKS Local Poet Goes for the Heart and Soul Connie Kohler, local Midway author, has written and published a poetry book, 'ThiS’ One's For you," under the pen name Kahne Marie. Kahne Marie earned her master’s degree from Brigham Young University in Physical Education and Health. She taught school in Salinas, | California for 27 | anguished moments. Kahne continues to write as a hobby for friends and family. The first day of issue is Sat., May _19. Shortline RR Begins 31st Year The diesel engine is ready to run. The Midway Shortline. Railroad, the other railroad in Heber Valley, will begin its 31st year of operation. Saturday. It should be operational for Memorial Lagoon Amusement Park. They were part of the Lagoon Miniature Railroad - that was powered by a 12-inch’sGauge Cagney coal fired steam locomotive. It operated from the early 1920s until 1940 at which time it was stored. While in storage the bodies of the cars were destroyed, however, the engine was preserved. It was run again from 1976 to 1985. This year we have added four 4 wheel cars—gondolas. This past winter Dick Thiriot placed new bodies on the old car frames and they are now part of the Midway Shortline. The lower part of these cars, floor, frame and wheels were donated by the play in the Lagoon Railroad Museum. Our regular schedule is the first nd third Saturday of each month and on holidays. However, we have had so many kids (their folks, and their folks’ folks), wanting to ride that we will try to operate just about every Saturday, . from 12 noon to 4:30 pm. Never a charge—this is our hobby. We like to share it. Donations help a lot to keep the railroad going. |
