Show Wasatch Canyon Reporter C Dit ORIAL Welcome to our one year anniversary. At times it looked as if we wouldn’t make it. There have been many big, if not huge, moments in the year since we started this newspaper. When the first issue came rolling off the enormous web press, Dave and I stood there grinning like fools. Spools of recycled paper spinning dizzily through huge rollers as blue suited men spun knobs in an orchestrated frenzy. You know the kick you get from watching a high speed production line. Well multiply that by ten when something you created is coming off the line. We slapped each other on the back (no real hugging though) and leafed through copy after copy. Craig Dillon’s awesome photo gleaming on the cover. (nice registration and color work Tooele Transcript boys.) I assume motivated, driven people cannot feel the rush that I felt at that moment. You see we are essentially lazy; yet we had accomplished something significant. It was big. I was blown away. Casimiro on the other hand won’t give me the time of day, but all things come.... When the Warnock library requested a subscription (for free) we had laughing fits around the office for a week. In college they would barely let me in the library, much less request a specimen of my work. We assume the librarian was nipping from the bottle that day. After a horrendous car crash this winter we sat around the office, Balog in a metal halo with four pins drilled into his skull, and me with staples pinned into my head and double vision. We typed away, and produced a paper. Probably the hardest single act I have ever done. When that paper came rolling off the presses I danced a jig..and passed | out cold. | The cynical critics predicted there wouldn’t be a one year anniversary for the Wasatch Canyon Reporter. We have hushed them all with our unrelenting, passionate, and goddamned accurate reporting. Well mostly accurate...but sometimes a bit confused and meandering. We are all a bit surprised that the Pulitzer van hasn’t come wheeling through with trophies, or Ed McMahon from Publishers Clearing house; we entered both. Madison Avenue tips a hat to our Cleo worthy ad design. Our advertisers yip with glee over the bounty that swings their way after each and every issue. The concerned politically correct of the Wasatch Front Range write letters thanking us for providing them with a voice. Last year Alta, Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude had no local newspaper. This year they not only have a quality newspaper, but we have expanded into Park City and much of the Salt Lake Valley. We do so many things wrong that it is easier just to blunder on, yet the typos are becoming rarer, we now have a style book, and the support from the readers has been staggering. When we started this I thought it would be a good idea, but it is the readers enthusiasm that has been our cornerstone. Thank you. Alta Election The Town of Alta will be holding a municipal election on Tuesday, November 7, 1995 to elect two Town Council members. The polling place is the Alta Community Center/Library and the polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The would be council members are: Rosalee Gale, Maximillian Z. Gregoric, and Tom Pollard. All have distinguishing histories in Alta and the WCR remains objective in this rare instance. Good luck to all. Help Wanted We are in dire need of sales people.
