Show iy i Bat October 1995 RANGE The Keyhole Restaurant Gears up for Fall Colors OF DEFEAT. Fall is in the air, and that can only mean one thing — ski sea- son can’t be far away. And with ski season comes the risk of ski injuries. I hear you saying, “No, no, little man, I’m too good to worry about hurting myself.” Au contraire, mon frere! It is true that novice skiers have six times the risk of experienced skiers of hurting themselves, but the fact remains that experienced skiers tend to sustain more severe injuries, especially high impact diggers and bad anterior cruciate liga{ment (ACL) tears. So what are some simple things you can do to lessen your risk of injury? Easy! 1) Prepare before the season starts. Go to the gym and work on your legs when the weather gets too bad to bike. You’ll be surprised the difference that 3 days per week of squats can _ make. 2) Always check your bindings’ release function. More than half of all skiing injuries happen because bindings are set too high for the skier’s ability or they fail to release. 3)Warm up. Stretch all your major muscle groups for several minutes at the top of the first run. Take one or two easy runs to get your body loosened up and blood flowing. 4) Leave the beer and bota bag at home. 25% of skiing injuries involve © alcohol, and they are usually the most severe. Save it till the day is done and you’re sitting by the fire. You probably wouldn’t run a marathon in Tevas without training while toting a snifter of brandy. Prepare and think ahead. Just using common sense is good practice when skiing. | The Keyhole restaurant at Snowbird completed a deck extension, and several other significant changes this fall in anticipation of the epic autumnal colors. Manager Pete Jacob waxed poetic when he dis-. cussed “The hearstopping beauty of the Cottonwood | Canyons in the fall.” | The deck extension have also changed from a club toa restaurant liquor license, which makes life easier for guests from the Salt lake — 7, GEA. allows considerably more seating to one of the most popular dining areas in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
