Show U BI TO 0 u aft OT 5 owing to the fact that the candidates tor for office on the citizens party ticket were nominated without the customary platform the city committee for this party deem it advisable to make a brief statement regarding the things that are most important in the corn com ing election we take this opportunity of saying that if we elect the men who have been nominated on the citizen citizens s party ticket the ers of eureka will receive a clean cut honest and business like ad ministration eureka should be one of utah s most progressive cities and no other place in the state of the same population has the same pos ties and in no other place in the whole west are there as many opportunities awaiting people of enterprise it can be made equal to any other city of the ame size by progressive administration of public affairs we need better streets and an exten extension Aon of the sewer system also a playgrounds for our children and perhaps some improvements in the water system it if these improvements are made the era ers must have value received tor for the money expended and it strict economy Is practised practiced there Is no danger of a heavy burden being placed on the property owners of our city realizing Keall zing that affairs of eureka have reached the stage where business ability la is needed if we are to continue making improve ments with the limited revenue which is now coming into the city s treasury the citizens party have selected to head their ticket a man who is not an unknown quantity in public office having well and faithfully served not only the people of eureka city but the people of juab county P J fennell our candidate for mayor has been in business in this city tor for many years and Is one of the substantial men of the community he served four years as a city councilman tor for eureka city and during his administration our present sewer system was completed our water system was improved and lower rates granted on water to the patrons of the system new cement sidewalks were put in on main street replacing the old plank walks which had been in use since the early days of eureka mr fennell played an important part in these improvements all of which were brought about without any heavy taxation mr fennell s work while a member of the board of county commissioners for juab county covering a period of four years Is still fresh in the minds of local people most of the voters of eureka will remember that we had trails for roads in this part of the state and the board of commissioners of which he was a member mapped out a system of road building and carried this through at the lowest possible cost and today we have roads in this county which are equal to any in the state the taxpayers of juab county did not suffer from ex taxation and yet mr fennell and the other members of the board accomplished much in the way of improvements and when he left the board there was more money in the treasury then when he assumed the office of commissioner during the time that he ed the county he was instrumental in securing after a bard hard struggle thousands of dollars in taxes considered lost to juab county hav ing been paid by one of our our mining companies to another county we believe that we can state without danger of contradiction that mr air fennell devoted more time to the office of commissioner than any other man who has held the office and that he also ac ae complis hed more for our section of the county not only have the citizens party named a competent business man tor for the office of mayor but they have also placed before the voters of this city a council which is composed of capable young men all of whom are taxpayers and who have lived here long enough to become known as permanent residents of the camp that they will have the best interests of the city at heart goes without saying we believe in the election of officers who are free to work and act tor for themselves who have no strings upon them and who in the appointment of officers will be able to pick those who are best qualified for the work for the various appointments qualifications and not party affiliations should count adv CITIZENS PARTY CITY COMMITTEE 0 A HO M R n P J fennel having been selected by friends to head the citizen citizens s party ticket in the coming election I 1 feel that I 1 have been greatly honored and wish to inform the voters of eureka that if I 1 am elected to the office of mayor I 1 will endeavor to perform the duties of the offic to the best of my ability and thus prove to my friends that no mis take was made in bringing about my nomination and election we cannot help but realize that it is going to take some hard work and good business management to maintain a city the size of eureka with our present small revenue but with the assistance of such men as have been placed in nomination tor for the city council on the citizens party ticket I 1 believe this can be done Not withstand i ing the falling oft off in our city s revenue it would be wrong to stop making needed public improvements our city cannot be permitted to stand still it must go ahead it Is true however that during these trying war times the greatest economy should be practiced not only by individuals but more especially by city county and state administrations here in eureka there are many avenues which aan an be opened tor for revenue if the matter Is properly handled and such revenue will naturally reduce the amount to be raised by direct taxa taxation tiow here are also opportunities tor for reducing the running expenses of the city I 1 have been in public office before and am willing to stand squarely on my past record leaving it to the voters to say whether or not that record is such as to entitle me to election if elected mayor of eureka I 1 will give the people ot of this city the best that Is in me in the way of an honest and business like ad al ministration no promises have been given to any person for any office or position at the disposal of the mayor and city council it if I 1 am elected I 1 will go into office entirely tree free ot of any such promises having no friends to reward or enemies to punish and with a firm determination to do the most good tor for the greatest number of peo pie I 1 believe that the mayor with the approval of the council should appoint to office only true american citizens whom they have every reason to believe are not only capable of performing the duties of these offices but who have the stamina to come out tor for what they ther think is right I 1 believe in equal rights no special no slacking of official duties american principles first last and all the time I 1 am yours and at your command adv P J
