Show WILL SHIP MANGANESE FROM THIS SECTION salt lake mining men have leased deposit in homans ville and another manganese property in erickson dist thomas L mccarthy M G E price and F E butler of salt lake city have taken a lease on the manga nese claims of the chief cons min ing company which are located at Ho mansville also leasing manga nese deposits of fleaner cromar nelson and morgan which are in the erickson district and adjoining adiol ning the property on which mr fleiner is now at work they have already e ad y operations at the ho aville pro perty of the chief con and are us ing a force of about abou out half h a dozen men it is stated I 1 tha al a their first carload of manganese mangan ore will be sent out within th the next ne few days within a very sho shot t tin time they also expect to put some men to work on the manganese property which they have leased in the erickson district the deposits of manganese owned by the chief cons people Is said to be one of the largest in the state it has been developed to some extent and about a year ago the owners of the ground succeeded in finding a market tor for the ore at that time there was no great profit in the ore and operations were suspended manganese Is however bringing an exceptionally high price and mccarthy price and butler who ap parent ly have a pretty thorough knowledge of this metal and who are also familiar with market condl condi eions expect to be able to make some money the advance in the price of the metal means that a much lower grade of ore can be bandied handled in peace times much of the man canese which Is used in this coun try Is imported but under existing conditions the large steel plants which use the metal in the manu facture of high speed steel must se cure their supply from this coun try a own mines and apparently manganese deposits in which ore of commercial value Is found are not plentiful the ore which Is now being min ed at Ho mansville carries about 35 per cent and there is said to be an abundance of this class of ore when the chief was shipping the manga nese they had no satisfactory market for ore which did not carry fifty per cent or better according to supt bupt cecil cell fitch |
