Expires 11/6/22 I’m John Thompson, an Unaffiliated register voter, running as a Democrat, for Weber County Commission, Seat A I believe that government is good, that government should serve the people and not the office holder. I will obey and fulfill my oath. Officials should be open, forthright, and responsive to constituents. They should listen, and when asked for one, reply back to constituents. Where I differ from the incumbent. Rescinding the payout to elected officials was great but the real question is why did the Republicans think this policy was beneficial to, and in, the public interest? Sure money was saved but after some $450K+ was already paid out. Benefits of public service, by definition, should be in service, not in compensation, especially after leaving office. I’m against and don’t support being a 2nd Amendment sanctuary county. This means we don’t support or uphold laws regarding gun safety. Laws should be enforced equally and fairly throughout the county, even regarding firearms. I put voting rights ahead of property rights. Land should be controlled and used with the interest of the public at large. Residents should have the heavier say in how their community develops. I believe General plans should be followed and exceptions approved by the same process the plan was. When two people can change what was approved by a lengthy process smells like special interest to me. My sympathy is with the man on the street to whom I believe government answers. Not being a resident of the Valley, I do support the interest of those in the Valley that are pursuing the incorporation of the Valley. What I’d like to do if presented the platform to do so. I’d like to rework the county property tax notice to make clearer and make sure those entities that are listed are able to answer questions about their charges. I also would study to make it that only Weber County property taxes are collected and that these taxes should stay in the county. I’d like to have a serious discussion and study regarding the combining of the Weber and Ogden School Districts with the priority being placed on students and finances. And I would advocate for campaign finance reform concerning county elected officials. For more information about me please see my candidate profile on the Lt.
