The theme of this year’s contest was “The Community Foundation of Ogden Valley—A Nonprofit Empowering Other Nonprofits” The CFOV will now award $25 cash and a $25 Giving Check to each of the eleven winners. Nonprofits Empowering Nonprofits By Ben Komenda Have you ever wondered what the Community Foundation of Ogden Valley’s (CFOV) mission is? Well, the town of Ogden Valley has 16 voluntary nonprofit groups, and CFOV is trying to help by serving these groups. This essay will include information on how CFOV is helping these organizations. To begin with, the way I see CFOV work is by fundraising nonprofit organizations. An example of this is, according to the website,”Greatnonprofits.org” CFOV states their mission is to ”Improve the lives of Ogden Valley residents and visitors through philanthropic leadership and community service.” This sentence helps us understand CFOV’s mission, to fund nonprofit establishments. Also, CFOV members are not getting paid like the rest of the organizations they are serving! This example just goes to show that CFOV is a generous group of people. In addition, some of these establishments CFOV is helping include the Northern Wasatch Rescue Professionals (NWRP). Based on what I read, the NWRP’s goal is to teach Ogden Valley residents about the training of rescuers, avalanche dogs, and medical first responders. Another one of these nonprofit establishments is the Ogden Valley Parks group. According to the article “Our Nonprofits,”’ it says, “‘Established in 1982, Liberty Park Community Organization provides community events on the 3rd and 4th of July, known as Liberty Days.” This quote from the text helps us see that the Ogden Valley Parks organization sets up the fun Liberty Days event that happens every year. Lastly, there is the Wolf Creek Foundation. This establishment helps Ogden Valley citizens by inviting Military families that are facing deployment within thirty days for a relaxing weekend at Wolf Creek Resort. Finally, my favorite one of these groups is the Great Basin K9 Search and Rescue. In the text, “Our Nonprofits,” the author stated, “Our mission is to train K9 SAR teams and certify them to the highest standards in order to provide K9 SAR services, at no cost, to public safety organizations in Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and Nevada.” This tells us that my favorite organization, K9 Search and Rescue’s mission is to provide trained dogs to search and rescue humans who are lost and have been harmed in the mountains. In conclusion, CFOV is a nonprofit orga- Below are copies of some of this year’s written by our 5th-grade students 2022 CFOV winning essays.
