Show Page 10 The Ogden Valley News Volume XXIX Issue XIII May 15, 2022 The Second Annual Ogden Valley Spring Clean a Great Success On Saturday, April 30, valley residents came together to show their love of the Valley by pulling dyer’s woad as well as cleaning up the trash that had accumulated over the winter. The event offers fun, exercise, a chance to meet new people, as well as an opportunity to give back to the community. From left to right: Andy Primbs, Jonell Karling, Gaila Lillie, Tia Monson, Heather Bowden, Brandi Hammon, and Les Vierra. Volunteers met at Mountain Luxury Lodge for a presentation by Cody Zesinger from Utah State University, Bart Cragun from Weber County Weed Abatement, and Kelly Wangsgard from the Weber Conservation District about noxious weeds in our area and how we can do our part as a community to help control and eradicate them. Gage Froerer said, “Thank you again to the Weber County residents who showed up for the annual weed cleanup April 30. Weber County has made a lot of progress in the last 12 months with the weed board website, which is a great information resource for weeds in our area. Dyer’s woad is only one of many species of concern, please refer to Weberweedboard.com for assistance in identifying and controlling noxious weeds.” Learn more about noxious weeds in your area at weberweedboard.com/weed-control. News From Huntsville Town By Richard Sorensen, Huntsville Town Mayor Early in the morning of April 13, 2022, a devastating fire consumed the home of longtime Huntsville residents Dave and Ruth Jenkins. Sadly, this was the second time for the Jenkins’ as they also lost their home to fire some 16 years ago. Our great residents always step up in time of need. To assist with immediate expenses following the devastating loss, a GoFundMe account and Charitable donation accounts were immediately setup. To date, more than $14,000 has been raised. Many of our residents also helped financially via direct donations. Donations are still being accepted at https:// gofund.me/d4d76c92 or America First Charitable account #9123548. Thanks for stepping up to help our friends and neighbors in a time of need. Memorial Day Celebration - Once again, American Legion Post 129 will hold military honors at the Huntsville Cemetery May 30, 2022 @ 12:00 noon. Be sure to arrive early, as we share our entrance with many beach goers who will be enjoying cemetery point. New Town Hall - As mentioned last month, our great town recently began a new chapter as we closed on the sale of the town hall building. We have moved out of the building and welcome our new business owners, Imagine Music. Imagine Music is expanding their Ogden location to Huntsville and will provide voice and musical instrument instruction. Initial design of the new town hall and community center are underway, and we will be hosting public workshops and open houses to solicit input from residents on design features in the near future. Please make sure you are on our email list to receive timely updates. We estimate design and construction to take about two years. In the meantime, our town offices have been relocated to the former post office building across from the Huntsville Mercantile, located at 7381 E 200 S. There is a water payment drop box on the front of the building. Our town meetings will be held at the Ogden Valley Branch library. Since the library closes at 9:00 p.m., we have revised our meeting schedule with most meetings starting earlier. Please check our website for updated times. We also have a conference room inside the town maintenance shops that will be utilized when necessary. Our next two years will be a time of transition, but together with our great staff and residents, we will make it work. PINEVIEW SURVEY cont. from page 1 • Implementing a seasonal closure, because there are no fees collected during the winter season to fund site management, i.e., snow removal, restroom maintenance, and trash collection. • More effectively monitor quagga mussel infestations by limiting boat access to designated use hours in cooperation with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. • Mitigate increasing vandalism occurring at the Port Ramp site by limiting use during designated hours. The following parking areas will be available throughout the winter months: Windsurfer/ Pineview trailhead, BOR/Salamander, Old Highway, Browning Point, Pelican Beach/Ouist, Cemetery Point with minimal parking spots, Anderson Cove, and the pull outs on Highway 39. Boundary Survey Project - The Bureau of Land Management, in coordination with the U.S. Forest Service, will execute a federal authority land survey for the perimeter of Pineview Reservoir. The purpose of the survey is to reestablish the extent of federal land title and to define the property lines between the National Forest System land and other ownerships in relation to well recognized points of reference. The Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service seek assistance from adjoining landowners in obtaining copies of any survey information to include any historic survey maps, or copies of property surveys that identify property lines and monuments set/placed on the ground. Upon completion and acceptance of the survey, boundary corners and lines of the National Forest System land will be marked in their legal location with permanent physical monuments. For additional information, contact the Ogden Ranger District, 801-625-5112. of a gate at Port Ramp and federal land survey for the perimeter of Pineview reservoir. These projects will improve visitor experiences by reducing deferred maintenance at several recreation sites and enhance aging recreational infrastructure enjoyed the visitors to Pineview. Sean Harwood, Ogden District Ranger, said, “The increase in use on the Ogden Ranger District, specifically at Pineview Reservoir, has created the need to upgrade and improve the heavily used sites around the reservoir. Our goal is to create an area that will support the recreation demands of future generations while protecting this prized resource.” These projects are being funded through the Great American Outdoors Act. Signed into law in August 2020, the Act provides funding that will improve conditions, update and repair aging infraMason, Alex, Boston, and Samuel Peterson structure, and enhance visitor experiences. This cleaning up trash in Eden. Act has been approved for funding through 2025. According to Harwood, “The first project is the Cemetery Point Stabilization [project] starting after Labor Day 2022. Construction on the other sites will start toward the end of summer 2023. Lots of great changes are coming to the Pineview area.” Port Ramp Gate Project - The announced changes that will occur at and around Pineview began taking shape last fall and are now continuing. The most recent change was the installation of a gate at Port Ramp, which began last September. The rationale for a gate being installed is to: • More effectively manage Port Ramp as a day use area by closing the site from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during the summer season. |
