Shall we go to the worlds halls of learning, the laboratories of the sciences, the studios of art? Was it from such institutions that Jesus derived His wisdom respecting mortal life, his understanding of eternal life? No, indeed! Although He did not condemn these interests of men, He never used them. He never even referred to them as essential to life everlasting. He did refer often to the kingdom of God as the repository of that truth which makes men free, that provides one with means of perhaps important, yet incidental to the greater matters of the kingdom of God. well-bein- 3. list several people whom you admire influence in your life. The 14 Great Handel Choruses album is one of the last to be made by the Tabernacle Choir, which was prepared by Richard P. Condie, and the Philadelphia Orchestra and its conductor, Eugene Ormandy. (Shortly after the last recording session of the Tabernacle Choir and the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philadelphia changed from Columbia Masterworks to e RCA Victor Recordings, and thus ended the collaboration. There are still several albums to be released from the last combined recording session.) There is concert-harealism in the new album, Hallelujah Chorus. Given an adequate decibel play on any stereo set, the performance comes through with such fire and intensity that it is sure, I think, to become one of the Choirs most successful albums. The choruses include, Side One: Awake the Trumpet's Lefty Sound, from Samson; See the Conquering Hero Comes! and For Sing Unto God from Judas Maccabaeus; Unto Us a Child Is Bom, from The Messiah ; Let Their Celestial Concerts All Unite from Samson; Welcome, Welcome Mighty King and David, His Ten Thousands Slew from Saul; "Coronation Anthem No. 1, from "Zadok, the Priest. from The Side Two: Hallelujah Chorus Messiah; Holy Art Thou (Largo) from Xerres; How Excellent Thy Name from Saul; Hallelujah, Amen from Judas Maccabaeus; But As for His People and "Sing Ye to the Lord from Israel in Egypt. Two minor items on the recording might prove a bit annoying to those who are used to hearing the choir in the Tabernacle, though they wont bother others. One is that the sopranos are heard on the right track as opposed to the actual choir seating that has the sopranos on the listener's left The other little disappointment is that the tape (from which the record is made) Is cut Immediately after each final note rather than letting it die in the tabernacles unique reverberations. 27 1969 4JM , |
