Jack Williams of Arizona and Boyd director of the Rasmussen, Bureau of Management. Both spoke briefly. , Gov. Williams said that the centennial should remind us of the tribulations of other Land times, not just Arizona, not just Utah, but remind the whole world that the spirit can prevail and endure. That was the legacy that Maj. Powell left, the Arizona governor said. Adding to the color of the ceremony w'ere Ute Indians who performrd dances crew are staying with the same schedule as the major did 100 years ago. Mr. Litton is a look alike to the real major even to the beard and the missing right arm. He and his crew were welcomed at the shore line by the Indians. Roland W. (Prof.) Davis, Buffalo, War and Round dances, and sounded an alert high on the cliffs that was coming an enemy down the river. The enemy was Martin Litton, former editor of Sunset Magazine. He is portraying Maj. Powell in a of the river run. He and his portraing Powell Aftaj. chairman of the Centennial for the Sierra Club dedicated the plaque prior to the unveiling by Mrs. Iverson. He is from Berkeley, but a transplant from Utah. He was born in Davis County and was student body president at the Utah State University. Mr. Davis recalled that just prior to leaving California, he stood on a street to watch the astronauts go by in a parade. "The government has spent millions of dollars to get those three men around the moon. The trip made by Maj. Powell was far more difficult 100 years ago. He had to raise the money for the expedition him self, and talked the Union Pacific in bringing him and his crew to Green River, Wyo.,. Davis said. He predicted that the benefits from the Powell trips down the Green and Colorado were far greater than we will realize from reaching the moon. Thursday. The Powell Memorial Highs way meanders like the rive-it folows from Green River, through Wyo., to Manila, Sheep Creek to Ver..al. RETRACE ROUTE In dedicating the Powell Gov. Calvin L. Highway, how the group told Rampton had retraced a small portion of the Powell route. The governor had lead a small fleet of rubber rafts down the Green to Split Mountain. It was a wonderful day. When yon pass through these canyons they have cnanged but minutely since the time of Christ. It is sobering thought . . . while men come and go . . . there is little change in the river and the area, the gov- A 3 SHOP FRIDAY NITE NO DOWN TILL PAYMENT 9 P.M.
