Yes, only once in a century could they stage a ball as festive. as gala as the Centennial Bull, which took place Thursday evening in Salt Lake City. Setting for the Centennial dance, held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Young Womens Mutual Improvement Association, was mammoth new Salt the Palace. THE DECOR And i was decorated magnificently for the occasion. . . . There were glimmering crystal chandeliers in the Grand Centennial Ballroom, where the entire Utah Symphony Orchestra played for dancing. . , . There were artistic posters in the Old Social Hall dancing area where the 23rd Army Band of the Utah N- ation a 1 Guard serenaded dance-voer- . . . There were red and white banners and tiny twinkling lights in the Balcony Ballroom, where Max Enge-ma- Orchestra placed on and on until the midnight hour. Seven refreshment areas also featured picturesque decor depicting colorful eras in American history. (Parlors and alcoves were done up like the the Roaring Twenties Gay Nineties. Such delicacies as cheese cake topped with fresh raspberry sauce were ... served there.) Stanford Allen, Bird, James Hodgson, H. LeGrande Lewis, Alma Heaton. It wen' on as many ... ... noted people from the YWMIA and. the YMMIA strolled about the Salt Palace admiring decor reminiscent of 1869. Frankness Needn't IN THE CROWD Spotted in the crowd: Mr. and Mrs. Theodore C. Jacobsen (she is president of the YWMIA); Mr. and Mrs. Junius M. Jackson, Mr. and Mrs.' A. Palmer Holt, Mr. and Mrs. G. Carlos Smith Jr. (he is superintendent of the YMMIA), Mr. and Mrs. Marvin J. Ashton, and Mr. and Mrs. George Richard Hill. It gained momentum . . . when ten oclock arrived, and many LD5 Church dignitaries assembled for a Grand Promenade. (They either participated in the event, or watched from the sidelines.)
