Show 4 Mission Presidents Called ' LESTER F. HEWLETT JR. ' . Lester F. Hewlett Jr., a member of the MIA gen- eral board since 1954, has been called by the First Presidency to preside over the Southern Australian Mission with headquarters in Victoria, Australia. h Pres. Hewlett, who resides at Ave., Salt Lake City, will be accompanied by Mrs. Hewlett and three of their five children. He is president of Mountain States Food Brokers of Salt Lake City. After service In the Army in World War Tt, he was one of the first missionaries to work in Alaska when that area was opened as a mission. He also has served in a bishopric and in ward and stake MIA posts. He was born in Salt Lake City Jan. 21, 1921 to Lester F. and Margaret Stewart Hewlett. He was graduated from the University of Utah. He married Ruth Brazier in the Salt Lake Temple in 1942. Mrs. Hewlett has served in many stake and ward auxiliary posts and at present is a member of the board of the Lion House and a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She was born In Salt Lake City to Ernest Eugene and Olive Mabel Wasden Brazier Jan. 13, 1922. She was graduated from the University of Denver and has done graduate work at the University of Utah. He also has been an active Scouter and holds the Silver Beaver. Bishop King has served as mayor of Burbank and on the Planning .Commission; He was a building contractor for.30 years and for the past two years has been regional manager for Delger Corp., a financial planning firm. He Is a native of Garland, Utah, and was born to Volney H. and Fannie Wallace King. He married Virginia Bowen, daughter of William W. and Mary Larson Bowen, July 3, 1934 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have five sons' and one daughter. A son will accompany them to the mission . . . - .... field. Mrs. King has served in many executive capac- ities in the auxiliaries. RALPH . He has held many executive positions in the Church, including that of bishop, high councilor and served as a counselor in the Blaine, Idaho, Stake. He served a Canadian Mission. , Mrs. Rawson, a native of Parowan, Utah, was bom Aug. 1, 1918, to Peter Hansen and Grace Gurr. She' attended the College of Southern Utah and Brigham Young University. She also has been an active worker in the Church, her latest assignment as president of the Primary In the Orem 13th' Ward. She was released" last month. Oli-pha- nt J. MURRAY RAWSON . Pres. J; Murray Rawson, first counselor in the Sharon Stake presidency, will head the Florida Mission, according to a call from the First Presidency. , He will succeed Pres. Glen L. Rudd. Pres. Rawson resides in Orem, Utah, and is part-- ner in Fashion Fabrics Ipc., stores of Salt Lake City. He is a native of Salt Lake City. f v.. When they CARL M. KING - JOHN RICHARDS - Ralph John Richards of Bishop, Calif., has been called by the First Presidency to preside over the French Polynesian Mission, succeeding Pres. Karl Richards. Pres. Richards, a teacher in the Bishop Union High School, is serving as a high councilor in the Mt. Whitney, Calif., District. He has served in many Church executive positions and was a missionary in Tahiti and California. He also was traveling secretary to President David O. McKay in 1952-5He was born In Malad, Idaho, June 7, 1919, to William H. and Margaret A. John Richards. He received his bachelors and master's degrees from Utah State University. He married Shaughnessy Salisbury of Logan in the Salt Lake Temple Aug. 29, 1941. They have six " children. Mrs. Richards is a daughter of Henry and Adalu Bybee Salisbury and was born in Logan, Nov. 27, 1920. She has served as an officer, teacher, organist and chorister in the various auxiliaries. He speaks or reads 12 different, languages, including Tongan, Spanish, French, German, Hebrew, Samoan, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Swedish, Dutch and Niuean, which is spoken by people on an Island near Tonga. . He , has written language plans for missionaries in Cantonese, which has cut the time to learn the language from one year to three months; in Korean, Japanese, Tongan, Niuean, German and Tahitian. He has also written brief language plans in Samoan, Fijian and Hindi. Pres. Morton said the language training program Is well worth while as it gives missionaries the opportunity to learn the language without having to worry about missionary work. Im glad I have die opportunity to learn the language before I get over to Finland," said one missionary as he spoke on the value of the training program..
