All I "These deposits were found by core drilling in the central part of the basin close to the depocenter. The cubic miles o: basin sediments contain reserves of oil almost impossible to imagine, easily measurable in trillions of barrels. By analogy, it might be assumed that the area of thickest Green River deposition in the Umtah Basin also contains its richest oil shale. This apparently is n)t true, judging from the fragmentary information now available," it was stated. It is little wonder that oil companies are interested in oil shale. With an economical process to extract the oil from the shale there would be another bonanza for the petroleum firms. System ast 5:: One possible method is underground nuclear detonation and in situ retortion proposed recently by Western Oil Shale Corp. and CER Geonuciear Corp. They are currently investigating sites in the Uintah Basin for such an experiment which they name "Operation Utah." Mr. Ritzma and Mr. Seeley state in their study that much of the oil shale in the eastern third of the basin is exposed on the outcrop or found at shallow depth. "These deposits are the largest suitable for strip mining in the United States," they reported. "Most of the remainder of eastern Uintah Basin reserves are at intermediate depths, suitable for some types of mining and in situ recovery of oil, but generally too shallow for the nuclear methods presently under consideration." They add, "The potential of the western two- thirds of the basin is so poorly known that no assessment can be made. It is probable that reserves equally as rich as those east of the Green River will be found. The Uintah Basin harbors extremely rich local oil shale beds assaying 90 gallons per ton; so it is possible that sizeable areas of rich concentrated oil shale lie undiscovered in areas completely untouched by drilling." ,t,ii". . t Ifii, p .2:1. 4$'24-1:1- 1)1111 i 4 Two N t ki I r:,:05,.):, 146 187 222 AMetCI Amer Motor 2 AmNtGas APhoto .0313 A Smelt 180 Am Stand A Sugar AmIBT 124 985 47 24 1.60 2.40 Tob 1.90 Am Zinc Co Ametek in 1 Ampex Co Anacond 212 Armco Stt 3 1.60 Ars Ck 1.40a Ash' Oil 1.20 Asso Trn .40 Assoinv 1.40 Atchisn 1.60 AtIlitich 1.80 Atlas Corp 1.20 lAsicoCp .40 5134 12st 42,4 31,32 52's 158 38 2514 5 63's 3711 6212 6334 62as 76,2 4011 1514 38 3412 11234 7 4734 3214 42 68 11 17 25 309 218 x98 301 264' IV" 118' 20 64 17 5 293 4 3351 52157 4214 16,4 9014 46 38 Am 'Armour 3334 2714 111 16 87 --- 90 453,4 45'4 3114 5214 37,4 2511 63 3614 6012 6114 5952 7534 40 1511 3714 311,- 16 Bab&W 1.36 BangorP .60 bath Indust Beat Fd 1.82 Beckml .12b Beech Ar .75 73 31 68 79,1 49 4034 30 21 24 159 .60 3el18.1-11- 37'9 504 97 1.60 Berdix Beth St' 1.60 Black 0 1.C! 1.20 Boeing BoiseCas .25 1.20 Borden Borg Wr 114 Bost Ed 2.08 Bourns Inc BranittA .50 Briggs5 2.60 Bris My 1.20 Brn Shoe 2 Brunswk Co BucyEr 1.20 Budd Co .80 BuicweW .80 Bur lind 1.60 Burrgh 1.20 72 4611 3234 5912 5814 6914 38 259 23 166 137 395 33 34 4412 267" 2114 35 11 19 311 3 S411 208 66 24 35'11 21974 32322 75 33'1 22 4614 82 24 43 ....CCamp S 1.10 Can Pacific 3 CaroPL 1.42 CarolTet .76 Carrier Cp 1 Case1.111 Co Cater Tt 1.20 2 Celanese Cen Soya AO Cerro 1.60g Certain-- t .80 1.40 Cessna C F Sit .80 ChmSPI 1.20 Chmpti 1.60 ChaseM 2.40 Ches Ohio 4 ChiM SP&P 104 23 29 . 12 99 73 123 37 x4S 277 B 5 25 5014 32 5212 254s 16 32 614 474$ 32 60'-s6134-- 6714334 761- 4- le - 40 28! 153- 1- ba 38 14 139 151 7 Dow-Jon- . - 1712 32 1.40 12 7414 41,4 13 65 73 451 191 14 39 67 3074 2814 47,4 5112 3431 85 45 44 63 135 58 72 a a 4914 521.7 46 ta DianaStr 14 As 80 .60 8 1.40 .20 188 94 33 1Dennson 1.40 2634 New Highs New 196869 ..
