I wondered liow they could dress up the big barn but they did red and white side panels done in exquisite taste. Then, of course, they put some of the best dressed people in the United States in it which provided the glitter. If furs are going out, one wouldnt know it. There were so many long, middle and men might .i. a doll. And with press cre- dentials to roam the realm, we looked upon all sorts, sizes and shades. Tricia is a vivacious blonde and wras gorgeously garbed in blue. It blended with Julies pink. Of course, cute David Eisenhower is so shyish he looked like someone had brought him along on a history lesson. He might be tbe young Abe Lincoln of his day. The Ronald Reagans, for in- stance, stopped everyone. Some grabbed for autographs but they on their programs were kept moving so that bottleneck in seating would not jam up the party. Mrs. Reagan might have set some style with her evening coat of black velvet with mink cuffs. She had dark red hair in short curls for the like Abe. A SUCCESS The entertainment was special (the emceeing by Ed McMahon was sort of disjointed). But how can you fail with Tony Bennett, Buddy Ebsen, Connie Francis, Jan Peerce, Roger Williams, Dinah Shore, tbe West Point Glee Club and h occasion. Ana Maria Alba, one of the newer beauty tycoons, can pass the test. She lays her own looks on the line as an example of what her creams can do. It is or.e of those family stories, said Ana Maria on a recent trip to New York. I had a great-grea- t aunt, an Irish beauty named Eliza Lynch, who went to Paraguay and married the dictator, Solano Francisco Lopez. Unfortunately the dry climate didnt agree with Eliza's much sun, too much drinking, too much dieting, too little sleep. Four things are good cleanser, tonic, moisturizer and night cream! Later, she was Impelled to keep her skin smooth when she became a movie actress. I made lots of friends In Hollywood, said Ana Maria. I gave my cream to some of them, and they used to say, many more. Mrs. Spiro Agnew (Judy as her Spiro always refers to her) headed the guest list. Mrs. Spiro was dressed in full length white, trimmed in beading, short sleeves and long white gloves. She's a charmer in a friendly sort of way. The emcee missed many lines, but the one big blur was when lie failed to introduce Mrs. Agnew with her husband. was packed. If there were entertaining honors to be given, Dinah the was Shore way-ou- t winner. Shes a leader, for sure. She gave the program its dynamics. And she added that special flash of patriotism which events of this sort demand. BROADWAY CAST The whole Broadway cast of the play, George M (life of George M. Cohan) came to the gala. Ladies The Distinguished Reception in the afternoon in the National Gallery of Art was expected to be the style show. and Everyone turned out wearing everything, if you looked for a trend at all in afternoon party wear you would have to conclude that the day's dress is just what one wants to wear. The reception was a Ana Maria Alba affair. One lady I interviewed said she waited in the wrong line three hours and was s6 tired she couldn't make it to the evening events. By the wrong line sue meant that Mrs. Nixon had switched reception lines just as she got to the receiving circle. As for this reporter, I just walked around and watched the ladies in waiting.
