These are words he now has to eat. He's in a new series, The Queen and I, which premieres Thursday at 6:30 p.nt. on Ch. 5. The CBS scries has the finest collection of performers from defunct series yet gathered together. Besides De Wolf, they include Larry Storch, who was cut adrift after F Troop; Carl Ballantine, who was in McHale's Navy, and Barbara Stuart, currently Bunny on Gomer Pyle. names, I .t they are , The cast includes four lesser-know- n - & experienced stars. f I We saw a sneak preview of The Queen and I the other night aboard a luxury ship in the Pacific. Later, with other television editors, we talked to the stars. The series concerns the fate of a cruise ship whose crew wants to save it from being scrapped. In a way, its an F Troop of the ocean. When asked about his earlier statement that he would not take on another TV series, Mr. De Wolfe said: "Well, I meant I wouldnt go into another series with three cameras. Thats how many they used on Good Morning, World. Thats how many Lucy uses. You cannot have a social life. For some reason, it takes a longer time to shoot the shows." Qv Asked what attracted him to the series, Larry said: "I was out of work. I needed money. No, actually, when I looked over the script, my part was that of a con man. The public loves a con man. Then, too, the series has 14 sets, which means well have a lot of scenery." Ballantine chimed in with: "I guess Ill never get a series on dry land. After doing my magic act for several seasons I landed the spot in McHales Navy and that went on for a few years, and now Im back on a ship again. Larry described the series as sophisticated comedy, which brought from Carl the retort: "Yeah, I've been hit in the face with water on the first six episodes." Attention turned to Barbara, whom Mr. De Wolfe described as a "unique actress. I have always admired the cast of Gomer Pyle. There are so many bits of business to watch, but I have noticed that Barbara always seems to know what other actors are saying. You know, actors usually dont listen to what other actors are saying. . . "I have to, Barbara broke in, "so Ill know where to eome In." The story had an unusual twist with a gay blade thinking he could borrow $500 from Julia so he could buy an engagement ring for somebody else.
