Ort Education loss fi The Salina Sun Record high levels of education, census shows Principal's Comer Boyd Gurney North Sevier Middle School When I first began my teaching career in 1963 at Richfield High School where I taught Chemistry, Physics, Algebra, and General Math, I read in the literature that if you took all the elements in your body and extracted them into little chemical piles, and sold them on the market, you would receive about 98 cents. That didnt make me feel like I was worth very much. Then, a little while ago, I read an article by a scientist from DuPont Chemical Company who gave a different value to the human being. The body contains some very rare elements, like the wonder drug interferon, w hich is worth thousands of dollars an ounce. This scientist also wrote that we know that there is enough atomic power in every pound of our body to create eleven million kilowatts of energy. The average person, therefore, has a potential chemical and atomic worth of about $58 billion. Just imagine, each person is worth $58 billion! That is what it would cost to replace you! Albert Einstein was asked by some scientists if they could analyze his brain after his death. What would the brain of a genius be like? Einstein agreed to this, with a provision that after they had studied his brain and had given a report to the scientific community, he would be allowed to have a letter read, which he would write. This letter would be read to You the scientific community after they had made their report on his brain. In time Einstein died, and his body was given to the scientists. They analyzed his brain, wrote a report, and brought it to a scientific convention. After the report was given, the man looked up and said, Dr. Einstein agreed for us to analyze his brain, which we have done, and weve given you the report. But we also agreed to read Dr. Einsteins letter. The stipulation was that we would read his letter after the report was made. He took the sealed envelope, opened it, and found a handwritten letter from Einstein. There were only two sentences in it The first sentence said, Im sure that you have found that my brain, like the brain of all human beings, has nine billion cells. Indeed, this is what Einsteins they had discovered. brain looked normal in every way.
