Show The Richfield Reaper ciin J I RHS Speech Students Win Honors VOLUME 106 RICHFIELD UTAH WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 23 1994 During the last month Richfield High School has participated in two invitationals where many individuals were able to bring home awards "In fact" claims Curtis Benjamin speech adviser "there hasn't been a meet where we haven't placed several individuals" Brad Skinner has brought home an award from every meet this year At the most recent Southern Utah University Invitational Sandi’s Has New Owner Terry Tate left Richfield receives keys to Sandi's Drive Inn from Duane Ross while Virginia Brewer in 1972 It was remodeled in April 1974 and featured inside seating Sherri Ross became a partner in 1975 and moved back to Richfield from California In 1980 the Arctic Circle franchise was dropped and has been an independent operation since Sandi Ross and Sherri Ross look on The drive in at 704 South Main Richfield was purchased by Tate Duane and Sandi Ross purchased the business from Harold (Slim) and Skinner placed fourth in humorous interpretation and seventh in the impromptu event competing against participants from more than 30 schools Others from the team did well also Chris Christensen placed fifth in humorous interpretation and ninth in impromptu "Chris has really improved over the course of the year" said Benjamin Another fine performance by Camisha Staples won her fifth place in extemporaneous speaking "Delivery style and clear thought are her strengths — a very persuasive speaker" said Ben- NUMBER 8 and speakers from 10 other schools was held at North Sanpete Skinner placed third in his first try at oratory and fourth in impromptu Dave Lyman earned second place in impromptu "Dave's a natural He had a frustrating lime in a final round dominated by blocking procedures that prevented them from speaking "That was tough" said Street "I think we would have placed had we been recognized" combines sound reasoning with smooth presentation" Trust and The Emergency Shelter Grant To run properly however wc g donarely heavily on tions and volunteers We want to take this opportunity to publicly thank the many individuals and merchants who have heard fund-raisin- our call for help and responded Each month our list of donations gets longer In January cash food clothing toys books appliances and other items for the shelter were donated Rep by many caring and compassionate individuals as well as the Richfield Seventh LDS Ward Relief Society and the LDS Church Storehouse These donated items made life more enjoyable for many people and were greatly appreciated Wc also want to give a rousing "thank you" to the wonderful gentleman (who wishes to remain anonymous) who showed up at our office volunteering to build our shelves Wc love the end of its y period This week the House of Representatives continued to work through the enor45-da- mous amount of legislation that has been proposed this session One bill of special significance to Washington County and Spring-dal- e is my HB 467 "Utah Special Service District Act Amendment" which passed in the House this week This bill allows service districts to include fire protection to the existing list of services that can be assessed penalties for late pay- ment An interesting event that took place in the House last week concerned Rep J Reese Hunter’s HB 116 This bill was debated on the floor Monday and defeated On Tuesday it was reconsidered and it passed Wednesday the bill was brought up for reconsideration again and debated further Everyone agreed to make up their minds overnight and to vote on it again the following day On Thursday the third and final vote was taken and the bill failed again We’re still waiting to sec if someone will make another motion to reconsider the bill again This is the only time in my 12 years in the House that the same bill has been voted on three separate limes in one week As always I am concerned with the issues in my
