Rep Brad Johnson District 70 At the beginning of this session when the income projections for the budget were announced Gov Mike Leavitt called the state's economy stunning with a S50 million surplus in the 1994 budget and an increase of S218 million in the 1995 budget We have just received an update on these figures and they arc up: $25 billion in 1994 and $32 million in 1994 I have been a member of the conservative group that has been meeting regularly from the beginning of the session to craft a tax cut I have told you that we could have a tax cut and increase funding for education and other programs that are necessary We now have most of the Republican Caucus agreeing with us that we can increase public education's budget by $100 million and still be able to give some money to the taxpayers It's crunch time and I have been very busy trying to make sure that the projects that arc beneficial to our area arc funded properly This includes wildlife appropriations Palisade Golf Course expansion Snow College expansion and Sevier Valley Applied Technology Center's expanded budget just to name a few My final bill is a "Livestock Dealer Act" which was requested by the Department of Agriculture will be heard in committee this week and it looks like it has a good chance of passing If it docs pass I w ill be 5 for 5 — all of the bills I have submitted will have passed the House of Representatives So far this session has been a highly suc cessful one for me We have been able to pass some excellent resolutions and bills that will have longterm positive impact on our com- leaders and their spouses Ted Christensen served as master of ceremonies The "Key Three" of the district Chairman Ron Bosshardt Commissioner Bill Lukens and executive Steve Foster were recognized
