White ami local tennis enthusiast Rothtels ba'hy recently toured courts at Liberty Park, C" Street and Fifth Ave , Wasatch Springs and Ensign and discussed problems and priorities for public tennis. After listening to their sugcomments and gestions. excuses for present court conditions. it seems evident that the tennis court situation m Salt Lake City Parks Department are well taken care of. First of all, steps should be taken to make sure that the 55 tennis courts that are under the jurisdiction of the Salt Lake City arks Department are well taken care of With a few exceptions, the court surfaces at these courts are adequate The lines are good and the fences surrounding the courts are excellent. The two biggest problems at the present time seem to bo dirty courts and lack of lights. Most of the courts in the Salt Lake City are in need of washing and weeding. White admits that some of the neighborhood courts are seldom, if ever washed, while Liberty Park Courts are washed just once a onth during the busy summer months. "Now that school is out. says White, we will have college and high school students working for us. In the next several weeks, we should have the weeds removed from the courts, the lights that need repairing fixed and the courts in general cleaned up. While it is evident that an effort is being made to keep the courts clean, especially during the summer months, this etfort is not enough and Mrs. Rothfels offers an excellent solution. Why cant the city hire two young men and provide them with a truck and the necessary equipment to clean the courts at Liberty Park once each week and the neighborhood courts at least once a month' asks Mrs. Rothfels. White claims that tennis players complain every time Ins crews dean up the courts and that costs of hiring and men supervising two young would be prohibitive. Cities all over the country pest signs that say 'these courts will be washed from uch a time to such a time said Mrs. every Monday, Rothfels. Salt Lake City should be no different phene from 7 a ni to 11 p m eavh day to :i"ign court' Once again, the minimum salary it would take to pay a person to Mipervise and take reservations is negligible and.
