Show nephi jury decided samuel hooper was not guilty at nephi last tuesday samuel hoop er a former resident of eureka who as charged with a statutory of bense was acquitted the jury be fore wh eh ch the case was tried bring ing in a verd ct of not guilty it was nearly two years ago that hooper was was held to the district court after a prel in nary hearing before judge lindsay of eureka shortly thereafter he jumped his bond wh ch eh i as in the sum of 1 1000 and left the state upon his return he was tak en before the district court at neph and after a d number of delays the rase ease was finally brought to trial the state a ch ef witness could not be secured tor for the trial which ended on tuesday and much of the evidence had to b read into the record from the transcript which was rr ade at the preliminary hearing mckay the stenographer who took do don n the proceed at the prel heir bear ing was present and cert fled fied to the correctness of the transcript hooper s defense was handled by C E 13 rry of eureka and thomas burton of nephi these attorneys hav ing been appointed by the court the airy j iry cons stad std of sam hanson phil sullivan and henry bannon of L reka chas E bigler of silver city koy roy L bachelor ernest R forest william A starr and avan harris of nephi |
