Show notes of the election by nine clock over one hundred votes had been polled 0 0 the weather was fine there being nothing but a little mud to indicate that there had been a severe storm during the two previous days 0 the dance at the pavil on drew out the usual large cro id and a jol 13 1 time was in order As fast as the election returns could be secured they were given out to the dancers 0 t the ladies of the catholic church served a mighty fine d to a great bunch of hungry election wort mork ers and to other friends A hot meal was served at the 1 boynter build ing on main street at the noon hour and also in the evening the pr ce was very moderate and the menu the best ever A large majority of the voters pre berred to walk to the polls and as a result the autos and carriages were not used to any extent until late in the day 0 0 the saloons rm remained a ined closed from seven 0 clock in the morn ng until the same hour at night in accordance with the proclamation issued by may or A L mitchell 0 0 the election this year was re mar kably free from personalities and throughout the campaign there was the best of feeling between the lead ers of the amo til parties people are fast getting over the old custom of fighting and wrangling brangi ng during a political campaign and it is well that they are A safe and sane election if ia t just as important as a safe and sane fourth of july T there here was q ite a demonstration at the citizens party headquarters when the returns were brought in the ai counting of the straight tickets assured the elect on of the citizens ticket and later when the count had been completed in two of the precincts there was a regular jolli ficat on joseph phillips dem dern s old war horse and one of the citizens party leaders stood upon the table and waved one of the large american flags with which the place had been decorated and which was the party emblem while a number of patriotic songs were sung mayor mitchell 1 s vote two years ago was as his majority at that time being T vo years ago the socialists elect ed a majority of their ticket at mammoth but the citizens retained control of the council the new administration will all be citizens party officials 0 0 the straight votes otes in the eureka precincts precia ts were as follows no 1 citizens social sag no 2 citizens soc soe alises no 3 citizens socialists no 4 citizens 72 2 socialists 53 total num o 0 ber her of straight votes for citizens for social ats majority for form er 4 0 0 mrs julia whitehead received the largest vote on the citizens ticket her ote vote in the four precincts was W II 11 bacon present city re corder and the only social st elect ed received a total of 0 votes 0 0 0 the total vote in the four eureka precincts was 1112 the largest ever polled at a city election the vote this year was larger than two years ears ago 0 0 0 already there is considerable spec spee as to who will f fill ill the ap poin tive offices when the new re gime goes in on january 1st there will be no dearth of candidates but the mayor elect and the councilmen who will serve with him state that absolutely no promises have been made k 0 ed ard pike is undoubtedly slate I 1 for the city attorney attorneys s office because of h s activity in the citizens party movement during the past few years other appointive offices to be tilled filled are city marshal two n pol cemen city physician road commissioner commiss commis oner justice of 0 the peace and city sexton 0 0 at park city the democrats won on out there were mere three other tickets in the f eld the total vote m was as a bout the same as it waa was in eureka walter adams a former resident of edreka made a good race for the mayoralty at provo being defeated by charles F decker who holds the office at the present time the platform on which adams made the race favored the licensing of saloons prove provo is dry at the present time 0 0 over at nephi there was two tick ets in the field but the same names appeared on both s II 11 F gear managed the campa agn for the citizens party lie ile m as on the job early and late and not only in the registration of voters but in getting the full party strength to the polls the work mork was handled syster ati cally and thoroughly wesley morton and C E berry performed practically the same work for the social ats they made a good clean fight and say that they bave no ex auses to offer for the party s defeat the ladies organizations for both parties were important factors in the campaign |
