| Show 1 C ME ON STATE TOUR prof E D robinson of tile the bacu facu 1 ity of tile the utah agricultural A gri cultural college called at this office recently on a trip over the state the purpose of which is to devise means of putting the college in closer touch with the people of utah by means of the press the utah agricultural college is in a position to furnish much information of great value to the people in the rural communities the problem confronting tile the institution is one of tile the proper distribution of the information available speaking of the mission of 0 utah college of agriculture prof RobIn robinson soE said the utah agricultural college which opens for its twenty seventh year september 19 1916 is essentially an institution of service it lias has a twofold two fold told aim it aims first to give to all of its students and to all others with it whom it comes in contact a broad appreciation of the best in life this appreciation is best expressed by the word culture it aims next nest to give specific instruction in some home particular field of necessary human endeavor this instruction is best expressed by the word training culture plus training makes the only true education I 1 the institution is organized with the thought of universal service in mind an ali appeal is made to the many hundreds of high school graduates thu thru out cut the west to continue their education in a school alive to western conditions dit ions where the specific problems of this section can best be met and solved an especial appeal is made to the many more hundreds who have not had high school training but who wish specific training in subjects that will most benefit them thus any one of eighteen or over is welcomed in in any course given by the institution that he can pursue with profit the utah agricultural college reaches the citizen of the west in various ways the college proper at logan offers to all those who can jou journey r to logan extensive courses in thirty three departments grouped in the six following schools agriculture home economics agricultural engineering commerce and business administration mechanic arts and general science thru the experiment station with the chief station at login logan but with sub stations throughout utah tile the college is able to solve the tile problems peculiar to the rural communities and spread this information by means of the printed bulletin and the personal conference thru the extension division the college is enabled to meet directly with many thousand men and lomeii on the farms each year through this personal contact a better understanding of the mission of tile the school of the people is brought about and the way is paved for the reception of the principles of the new industrial education |
