Show HILLTOP TIMES Hilltop 6 TIMES December 31. 2014 TOP STORIES OF 2014 Camera From 1 at the International Defense Film Festival, where the group received a social category award for a program it produced, "The Preservation of the Force and Family Resiliency." The video was the only one from the United States that competed in the event, going up against films from 15 other countries. Secretary of the Air Force Deborah Lee James accepted the award on Dec. 16 via live video satellite feed so team members could watch. Last year, the Operating Location - H group produced a video that won the best of the best, so So- rensen said the group is no stranger to making highquality films. The face behind this year's winning video, Tech. Sgt. Michael McCool, put together the video at the request of the Air Force Special Operations Command, which wanted a music video to help its frontline people who are deployed on a regular basis. "There has been a drastic upswing of divorce rates, abuse and suicide, and AFSOC is trying to combat some of those things by showing that they aren't the only one facing these issues and realizing it is something they can overcome," McCool said. Producing the video meant filming in multiple locations, including Hurlburt Field in Florida, and building sets in the studio at Hill to simulate living in Iraq. Several of the shoots were emotional and intense, McCool said, with actors hollering and crying. "It was hard to edit because I knew these are based on real stories," said McCool, who spent many interviews with Airmen talking about the difficult issues they face. "We've all been in situations where we have been separated from our families, and those that struggle, our heart goes out to them. We wanted to represent their situation, not to offend, but for them to see NICT0,1/ U.S. Air Force Air Force Public Affairs Agency Operating Location - H recently received the social category award for "The Preservation of the Force and Family Resiliency" at the the International Defense Film Festival. ing the Air Force Academy graduation every year. "We are bombarded in our culture by commercials and advertisements of idealized family gatherings, elaborate gift presentations and messages of merriment and joy," said Redd. "Many people have a holiday experience that doesn't match these images, and this can serve to increase symptoms of depression or other mental health symptoms." Sometimes as a Wingman, you have to take Bold Face actions: Assess the desire for self-harm; assess the means of self-harm; assess the status of the four dimensions of wellness (physical, emotional, social, and spiritual; ensure your supervisor or leadership is aware if someone expresses intention or plan to harm themselves or someone else. Redd said, "Being a good Wingman means knowing the people you work with and recognizing subtle and distinct changes in personality, behavior and appearance of those we work alongside, because these can be clues that someone is experiencing more than normal stress and difficulty acclimating to a significant life change." If you or someone you know is dealing with depression, there are many helping agencies and Innovate From 2 already raised the speed limit on the perimeter road, canceled monthly meetings, returned promotion ceremonies to the squadrons, deleted multiple briefing requirements, and so on. All of these improvements are incredibly simple and small changes that make our lives better — ideas that came from our Airmen. Those are not truly innovative ideas, but they are better ways of doing business, and we're listening. Together we can push the boundaries. Our youngest Airmen hold the keys to this change. Listen to them, and take action. Don't be --7•§7 - IVWet0 . ` 4 • .k-'.. /. "."' ..-,. ..1.- 4:- Y / / i.. -- e/raler , .,'(7/( Ali?' Innovation will save us money, which is good, but more importantly, it will save us time — time that will go back to you and your team. I want you to keep that elusive "white space" time for yourselves. You know best what to do with your time. Hopefully you'll use that time to get to the gym, travel Europe, mentor a young Airman, or experiment with ways to do our mission better. We can innovate together if we accept the fact that it comes with a price. A price we're willing to pay. I like Winston Churchill quotes, so I'll leave you with this one: "No idea is so outlandish that it should not be considered." Trust your intuition, and let's get after this together. ...:' U 1964 MIL MITSUBISHI MOTORS 2014 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage DE 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport ES 2WD Stk # TBD Stk # M15011 $20,445 MSRP - $1,000Customer Rebate -$500 Holiday Customer Cash -$500 Dealer Cash YOUR PRICE: -$500 Owner Loyalty ti c 000 -$500 Military Discount V5y -$645 Dealer Discount 11 1 1111111111111M Wow/ $13,522 MSRP -$750 Customer Rebate -$250 Owner Loyalty YOUR PRICE: -$500 Military Discount 822 -$200 Dealer Discount $11 ¥I' 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2014 Mitsubishi Evo GSR Stk # M14013 Stk # M14005 $19,585 MSRP 41,500Customer Rebate -$500 Dealer Cash -$500 Owner Loyalty YOUR PRICE: -$500 Military Discount si 5 985 -$600 Dealer Discount Wow $38,476 MSRP -$500 Customer Rebate -$500 Dealer Cash -$500 Military Discount -$1400 Dealer Discount ! 111 Wow !
