As the most cornmon invasive cancer in females worldwide breast cancer accounts for 16 percent of all female cancers and 22.9 percent of invasive cancers in women. Of all cancer deaths worldwide, 18.2 percent are from breast cancer, for both males and females. According to the National Cancer Institute, 232,340 female breast cancers and 2,240 male breast cancers are reported in the U.S. each year, as well as about 39,620 deaths caused by the disease. What are the signs and symptoms? The first symptoms of breast cancer are usually an area of thickened tissue in the woman's breast, or a lump. The majority of lumps are not cancerous; however, women should get cells " Kleinfelters syndrome (baby boys born with much higher levels of estrogen). " Mutated genes. " Genetics/family history. Dr. Roger Hansen from Gamma West Cancer Services, a specialist in oncology radiation and Dianne Ingle, a breast cancer survivor will speak on these important topics. There is no charge to attend, and there will be gift bags for the first 100 individuals to come. For more information call them checked by a health care professional. Men will experience smaller tumor size. The most common symptom of male breast cancer is the appearance of a lump in the breast. In most cases, the lump will be painless. Some of the possible early signs of breast cancer include: " A lump in a breast. " A pain in the armpits or breast. For women, it does not seem to be related to the menstrual period. " Pitting or redness of the skin of the breast; like the skin of an orange. " A rash around (or on) one of the nipples. Early detection/screening can help prevent the spread of cancer for both males and females. If there is a history of breast cancer in the family, a person should check regularly for lumps and report any changes to a doctor as soon as possible. In general, leading a healthy lifestyle (in addition to breast feeding and limiting post-menopausal hormone therapy for women) will help prevent breast cancer as well as many other serious health conditions.
