Since opening the gym, they've had to balance full-time civilian jobs and families along with their Reserve careers. GLINT Reservists team up to start local gym BY SENIOR AIRMAN CRYSTAL CHARRIERE 419th Fighter Wing Public Affairs T hree 419th Reservists turned their passion for fitness into a business by opening a gym together. "Fitness gives me a way to release my stress in a healthy way," said Master Sgt. Ronald Beard, 419th Security Forces Squadron training NCO in charge. "I was lifting weights when I came up with an idea to open a fitness center." Beard first decided to open a gym about three years ago. He took his idea to two fellow members of the 419th Fighter Wing: Tech. Sgt. Nathan Yeaman, 419th SFS NCOIC of combat arms, and Master Sgt. Cory Bobo, 419th Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management NCOIC. The result was Prolific Fitness & Spa in Clearfield, which opened June 17. "We currently have about 150 members and counting," Beard said. "That is great for a fitness center opening in the summer and being open for only three months now." Beard has always scored well on his physical fitness test, but he says opening a gym has held him more accountable. "Since opening the gym, I find myself wanting to eat healthy all WINNER the time and work out even harder than before," Beard said. "As a gym owner, I need to look the part." For Beard and Yeaman, the business partnership seemed like a natural fit. They've worked together in security forces for about seven years and share high fitness standards. "I always wanted to help others accomplish their fitness goals," Yeaman said. "Now I provide a resource for people to do so. That's why I wanted to open a gym." They say there's a lot to balance — Reserve, families, full-time civilian careers, along with their new business. Even with hectic schedules, they manage to focus on the bigger picture. "Opening Prolific Fitness & Spa was an easy transition because fitness is important in my military life," Bobo said. "Not only does fitness improve the health of our military force, but it also improves our military capability down range." Health was always part of these Reservists' schedules, but now it has engulfed their lives. "Fitness should be an important aspect of everyone's life because they would feel much better emotionally and physically about themselves," Beard said.
