Show Hilltop HILLTOP TIMES 3 TIMES Sept. 5, 2013 Third annual basewide food drive motivated giving BY VALENTINE SACKMANN Team Hill Junior Force Council president T earn Hill Junior Force Council teamed up with the Contracting Directorate for the third annual "Lend a Hand, Give a Can" basewide food drive as part of the Feds Feed Families initiative across the federal government. The drive took place during the month of August and more than 90 collection barrels were placed around the base. Despite the furlough and other challenges this year presented, Hill AFB employees looked past their own challenges to fill their collection barrels. They organized competitions between flights and shops, came up with creative incentives, such as giving donuts in exchange for donated goods, and motivated co-workers to help others in greater need. After four weeks, Hill ABF employees donated a remarkable 8,091 pounds of food, which will be distributed to the Airman's Attic, St. Anne's Center, Catholic Community Services, Open Hand Ministry and Ogden Rescue Center. A special thank you goes out to the Hill AFB Commissary for donating a large amount of canned food to the food drive. In addition, a thank you and congratulations goes to Kent Nomura and the Operations Support Flight for winning the 75th CES Food Drive Competition. His flight, with only 35 employees, donated an impressive 501 pounds of foods, which equated to over 14 pounds donated per employee. Thank you everyone for supporting this year's food drive. The local food banks greatly appreciate your generosity and dedication in helping others. • G I I L li l Nir: 0 ca 4 THAIO /Ph, vi/1 /1/. 0 c.) - Michael Dee, MD, a native of Ogden, Utah attended the University of Utah School of Medicine.
