Military families were able to pick up free school supplies and backpacks thanks to the generosity of the Team Hill - Junior Force Council and Operation Homefront. It's 'The Magic of Education' School Fair " Hill AFB Job Openings Site 75th Force Support Squadron I t's back-to-school season and the base's Airman and Family Readiness Center School Liaison Officer and Exceptional Family Member Program held a back to school event giving out free back packs and schools supplies. The Team Hill - Junior Force Council teamed up with Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit organization that helps military families and wounded warriors as well as United Way, and donated school supplies and backpacks to the children of military families. The event, which was dubbed with the theme "The Magic of Education," was held Aug. 15 at The Landing. A school information fair was held with principals, counselors from the local school districts, as well as other vendors from both outside and inside the base. "This was a super event. We had over 1,000 attendees," said Judith Maughan, Airman and Family Readiness School 4-H "Hoof Prints" members from Eden, Liberty and Huntsville pose with school supplies. "We gave away $120,000 worth of school supplies including 1,400 back packs the day of the fair and for a couple of days after the event. We had 65 volunteers from many agencies and a group of 4-H girls, who helped us sort and get ready for the event." Maughan noted that without the generosity of Operation Homefront, United Way, Utah Military Families Foundation and all the volunteers they would not have been able to put on this event. Tammy Custer, Hill's EFMP-Family Support specialist, said she hopes this annual event continues to grow because of the donations from the local community and the wonderful things the base is able to offer at the event.
