KIM COOK/U.S. Air Force Airmen work hard to keep up with Tony Horton as he leads a fitness class at the Warrior Health and Fitness Center on Feb. 2. The P9OX video series creator spent the day at Hill Air Force Base with fitness and nutrition opportunities for Airmen to ask questions and learn how to enhance their fitness. HORTON From page 1 the base. The day started with a 6 a.m. workout session opened to all military where they could do an hourlong total body P9OX workout with Horton and his two trainers. "The workout was very beneficial," said Senior Airman Brandon Carlson, 649th Munitions Squadron. "I enjoyed the fact that there were him and two others roaming around so when you weren't sure of how to do an exercise they were there to help and their motivation was inspiring. I also liked the fact that if you couldn't do the exercises one way, Horton had one if not two more ways of doing it." Horton made the workouts doable so that anybody, no matter what their fitness level was, could participate. The fitness expert said that when starting a fitness rou- "The number one fitness myth is thinking that you will create dramatic physical changes by repeating the same exercise. After the morning workout, Horton was able visit the Airman Leadership School and see a little bit of Hill. "My visit has been really great," said Horton. "I was able to visit with the Airmen at ALS where I talked to them about the connection between their success and diet and fitness and got to see a missile area here." After Horton's tour of the base, a Lunch and Learn session was offered for Airmen to have an opportunity to better understand fitness and nutrition and ask questions. Horton said that fitness is important to him because he is 53 years old, but feels like he is 23 and every time he eats healthy and works out, his health improves and prevents diseases that are genetic or that his ancestors had. During the session, Horton was asked what he thought the number one fitness myth was and why. "The number one fitness myth is thinking that you will create dramatic physical changes by repeating the same exercise," said Horton. "To have success, you have to focus on your weaknesses." After the Lunch and Learn, Horton hosted an end of the day workout session that was open to all Team Hill who had access to the Warrior Fitness Center. Horton said that if you work hard, it will work and if you surround yourself with people better than you, one day you will be better than them because of the motivation and drive to push yourself harder. SERVICE IS OUR MIDDLE Davis is our hospital. All five of my children have been premature. Because of my body's inability to carry a pregnancy to full term, all of my babies have been born early and cared for in the NICU at Davis Hospital. The pregnancy with my twins was especially difficult. The nurses at Davis were our saving grace. Without their exceptional care and knowledge, it would have been much, much harder. 1 can't say enough about how fantastic the nurses are at Davis. Todd and I are so grateful that Davis Hospital has been here for us. Make Davis your hospital. DavisHospital AND MEDICAL CENTER PRAYER From page 1 country." He then went on to tell a story of how prayer can help save the lives of those in the military: "A woman had five sons fighting in World War II. She went to her bishop and they said a prayer for the boys. The bishop then promised the woman that if she prayed for her sons every day that all five would return home safe; which she did. One of her sons was flying over Berlin when the tail of his plane was shot off. He was only able to attach one side of his parachute when he was thrown from the plane. As he was thrown out the ripcord was pulled and deployed the parachute, which was useless streaming behind him. During the 28 thousand foot fall, the parachute caught on a building, ripped, and he continued to fall. The parachute then caught on a lamppost and he came to rest with his feet 18 inches off the ground. He survived, and he and his brothers all returned home safely because of their mother's prayers." Oaks also discussed the importance of why prayer should be done every day, not just used as a safety net during difficult times. He went on to say that he believes people should be allowed to pray in public but that those who choose to should remember to be respectful to others. "I hope we can always say it's politically correct to pray. But we must remember to be respectful of others and their beliefs," Oaks said. "But I hope we don't let that concern override our basic need, desire and willingness to pray to God however we perceive God." We LOVE New Patients! |
