Depression is not a sign of personal weakness or something that you can simply tell yourself to snap out of. If left untreated, depression symptoms can last for weeks, months or years. Treatment for depression The good news for people who suffer with depression is that more than 80 percent of all cases of clinical depression can be treated effectively with medication, psychotherapy or a combination of both. However, up to two-thirds of those experiencing depression never receive treatment. Some individuals may not seek treatment due to lack of information on how to seek help or because they don't even recognize they have depression. Others are embarrassed or afraid there may be consequences or a stigma to seeking help. Luckily, in military and civilian communities, depression is becoming better understood and the stigma of having depression and/or seeking treatment is decreasing. For military members, seeking help on your own accord rarely has a negative impact on your career. If you think you may have symptoms of depression, it is important to seek treatment early. Depression which please contact the project manager, Jay Crawford, at 801-777-4235 or 801-430-3195. remains untreated can lead to relationship problems, substance abuse, financial problems, or unemployment. Also, it is estimated that 70 percent of suicides are linked to untreated depression.
