Show HILLTOP TIMES 'Gear Up for Summer' Expo on May 4 seeks exhibitors 75th Force Support Squadron Marketing Office T he 75th Force Support Squadron at Hill Air Force Base is currently accepting vendor applications for the 2011 "Gear Up for Summer" Expo, scheduled for Wednesday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Warrior Fitness Center. Vendors from the following categories are encouraged to apply: Fitness — fitness centers, personal trainers, fitness retailers, weight loss programs Outdoor recreation — amusement parks, water parks, museums, ski resorts, sporting events, resort hotels, tourism organizations, campgrounds, licensed guides and outfitters, parks and recreation organizations, recreation equipment retailers Education — universities, colleges, technical training schools, flight training schools, on-base schools, off-base schools, and online schools Booth space is limited and is $70 for businesses and $35 for nonprofit organizations. Deadline for space and payment is April 25. Payment must accompany application. The event is open to everyone who has Hill Air Force Base access. U tah families will have an opportunity to drop off their unused prescription and over-thecounter drugs at the Commissary at Hill Air Force Base and at any Smith's grocery store in Davis County, on Saturday, April 30 from 1a.m. to 2 p.m. Security Forces personnel will be present to collect unused medications in the parking lot of the Commissary. Their counterparts with Davis County Law Enforcement agencies will be present in the parking lot of all the Smith's grocery stores. "While we have a permanent medication collection box in the lobby of our police department, this is another opportunity for families to clean out their medicine cabinet and have drugs safely destroyed," said Layton City Police Chief Terry Keefe. Participants will be divided into groups to identify concerns about the quality of life experienced by Airmen and their families, issues that affect personal and professional lives, support issues and any of the gaps therein. The concept involves working at the installation level and providing information for the commanders on issues directly impacting Airmen and their families. The majority of the items typically will be solvable at the installation level. At the end of the forum, participants will vote on and forward 10 issues to the major command level where a similar review and prioritization process will be conducted. Thereupon 10 issues will be forwarded to Air Force Headquarters for the 2011 Air Force Caring for People Forum. The working groups at Hill's forum will be divided as follows: April 21, 2011 Phlebotomy grants for military spouses available through A&FRC to Davis Area Technical College BY SARAH HANYCH Airman and Family Readiness Center Community Readiness Technician T he Airman and Family Readiness Center was chosen in January to receive a $4,000 grant for the Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) Spouse Education Grant Program. This year the grant is available for the area of phlebotomy at Davis Applied Technology College. This course consists of obtaining a better understanding of the body systems and various lab tests, and performing venipunctures accurately. "The public has become very concerned about abuse and poisonings from unused prescriptions and overthe-counter drugs" said Leah Ann Lamb, assistant director of the Utah Division of Water Quality, "but they are also concerned about the impact to the environment from flushing medicines down the toilet or sink." The Department of Environmental Quality has provided grants to local law enforcement agencies to provide collection boxes.
